I had the thought, is there a way to see who's the most popular characters in a franchise? Kind of like e621's tag search but being able to filter by franchise.

And yeah, that ugly kludge I made is probably best just left as a working example of not a great way to do it.

You just need to do a metasearch to get a list of all characters, and it should just tell you how many have that tag.

Not a real shock: "gadget_hackwrench 2747" (with 3341 total posts)

Yeah, just use metasearch, instead. It usually gets all of the main characters. MLP/FiM is just an annoying exception that I just tested.

most-all of the FiM cast has the *_(mlp) suffix, so you can just search the all of those tags by count

That's very easy but you can't really do that with pokimon or palworld
