Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: brainrot -> invalid_tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #72065 brainrot -> invalid_tag has been approved.

Reason: "Brainrot" is just the latest synonym for "cringe" (which itself is just a synonym for "thing I don't like du jour"), which is already aliased to invalid_tag, along with other "insult tags" once used for the same purpose like "bad" and "stupid". I don't care if you don't like x franchise, nor am I defending x franchise, but I thought we moved past using the tags for judgement.
I'm also aware that requesting a category change is generally preferred to aliasing to invalid nowadays, but here I'm following the precedent of, again, words that mean the exact same thing.

EDIT: The tag alias brainrot -> invalid_tag (forum #417182) has been approved by @slyroon.

The alternative if we don't do this, of course, is to open up a BUR to add implications to everything the internet has given this mantle in the past, which would implicate, including but not limited to: Minecraft, Fortnite, Among Us, Five Nights At Freddy's, Undertale (Series), Sonic the Hedgehog (Series), etc. The only thing objectively — meaning, without any subjective assessment of quality or depth — separating them from the current things declared "brainrot" is the time period that they were considered public enemy number one.

Either everything or nothing gets the tag. It has to be consistent.

Insult tags aren't good to keep, but this seems to have a use beyond insulting the theme. There's a good number of images in that tag which are using the concept of 'brainrot' itself as a theme:

So it does look like there's a legitimate use here that people who like this humor or wish to avoid it couldn't accomplish just with ip tags. The question is if there isn't a better (and potentially more populated) tag for it.

Slang? Or maybe something like Totally Radical if you're talking about specifically making fun of slang?

My point is, there's a bit of a double-standard going on with the whole "brainrot"/"cringe" concept bordering on a lack of self-awareness that's been driving me kinda nuts for years, even way, way back when Undertale was the designated cringe king.

The usage of the Brainrot tag somewhat makes sense when the aim is intentional.

But it also makes sense that it is a rather subjective umbrella tag referring to the usage of certain characters/IP that are already tagged with their own respective tags.

How are those using "brainrot" as a theme? It's just purposely cringe slang dialog, which is the entire reason to alias it away (what's cringe to one person may not be to another, and it would be too easy to misuse by someone who finds something cringey instead of being an intentional attempt at cringe). The only legitimate use I could imagine is for literal rotting brains, but it's not being used for that at all.

How about something like "Fad satire"? I don't know if that's the cleanest wording, but.

Edit: Went ahead and added that tag. Didn't touch the "brainrot" tag for now because it hasn't been approved or rejected yet.

We all know that there's probably literal brain rotting going on in some posts. Alias to zombie? (joke)
