Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: woofy -> woofy_(woofiearcticwolf)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #72206 woofy -> woofy_(woofiearcticwolf) has been rejected.

Reason: Multiple tags exist for the same character. The actual character is only known as “woofy” according to its creator, but the creatir’s name has been added for the sake of clarity.

EDIT: Sorry for any perceived spam, I’m still trying to figure out how this system works.

EDIT: The tag alias woofy -> woofy_(woofiearcticwolf) (forum #418359) has been rejected by @AWolfNamedB.

Since woofy is a not-uncommon name for characters and artists, the tag shouldn't be aliased to a specific one. Otherwise, people that tag it to mean a different character or artist will end up mistagging the one's it's been aliased to. In cases like this, the tag should be disambiguated: alias woofy -> woofy_(disambiguation) and set woofy_(disambiguation) to the Invalid category using a BUR.

So am I just misunderstanding how the tagging/aliasing system works? I assumed that aliasing a tag was equivalent to replacing that tag with something else e.g. ‘generic_character_name‘ (but specific to a single specific character currently on this site) would essentially be replaced by ‘generic_character_name_(artist/account_name‘. Is that not the case?

No, that is exactly how it works. The problem is that woofy can mean hundreds different things and characters, and not just this one specific character.

The problem with aliasing generic character name is that it's generic, which means it can/has been used for other unrelated characters. For example, woofy has been used for tags such as woofyrainshadow, woofy_(woofyrainshadow), woofymutt, and woofy_(sparkibarki)
