Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: zoological_gardens -> zoo_(facility)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #72355 zoological_gardens -> zoo_(facility) has been approved.

Reason: While zoo is short for zoological garden, the full term is not in popular use, nor well known. It is usually just called a zoo. This would make it fit better as one of the disambiguation targets for zoo_(disambiguation), and might lead to more people finding the tag.

EDIT: The tag alias zoological_gardens -> zoo_(facility) (forum #419435) has been approved by @spe.

If it was just zoo I might agree, but that seems to be a disambiguation (is people tagging bestiality as zoo actually that much of a problem?), the difference between zoological_gardens and zoo_(facility) seems quite pointless to me.

People neither commonly call it "zoological gardens" or "zoo (facility)" and tag autocompletion works just fine with either tag - what is really being achieved here? If the tag is only going to be able to be found through means of using tag completion in the first place, what's the harm in using the full term?

In my case, I didn't know "zoological gardens" was the full term, so even after seeing it in the disambiguation list I wasn't sure if it actually just meant zoo. Even looking up the term didn't really clear that up until I found a reference to it under zoo. Maybe a wiki could help here, but I think zoo_(facility) is significantly clearer in that way.

I'd be hesitatant of removing the disambiguation, but it is an option.

'Zoo' is used so often in the fandom as a term for zoophiles or bestiality that I'm pretty sure in a furry art site you'd see it used more for that than anything else. So you do need clarification.

Zoological_gardens isn't well known or necessarily clear to people who don't already know what it is since people might get hung up on the term 'garden'. Especially when you consider things like reptile zoos, insect zoos, or petting zoos, which will not resemble most people's idea of a garden at all. Also it just sounds overly formal and old-fashioned in a bad way.

So you need a clarification and the old timey term is a weird fit. I suggested _(facility) because it didn't sound as dumb as _(place) and was more inclusive than _(park).
