Topic: Tag Alias: masculine -> manly

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

That alias makes sense, but the tag itself is somewhat redundant.

Manly started as an opposite of girly: masculine females. But now it's almost entirely tagged for males. The way it is used, it's basically just a tag for muscular male.

That's not something I'd considered before, but I suppose you're right. It makes sense that it would have too since "manly" isn't really a term used to describe women (and when it is it's meant to be degrading) but the word itself seems to have been been watered down over time.

Girly on the other hand is used in several cases where there isn't really much of a "manly" equivalent for these days (crossdressing, bright colors, certain patterns, costumes, etc.) and has come to mean "stereotypically gay-looking male" (and also on e6) "probably gay-looking male but ambiguous_gender because ambiguity).

Muscular_female also may have had a slight part in this.

On the other hand, I'm not exactly sure what to do with the tag other than possibly muscular_male (the missing one) but that would be a massive tagging project.

Redundant or not, I've approved it for the time being since there isn't really any better place to put it.
