It should be aliased. It's not a distinct character or an official alternate form, so should be under the same tag, and we don't need separate tags for every independent artist's design of a given character. And even in cases where characters have different tags for different designs or forms, they shouldn't imply (or be tagged with) the original character tag. It also creates confusion in various situations, like loona_(valorlynz) being ambiguous if it's referring to a character created by Valorlynz named Loona (which there's more than one of, as Loona is ambiguous; I wonder how many of those are unique characters, or separate models of another Loona), or just a model created by Valorlynz of some preexisting Loona character, making it unclear what's being referred to. Similarly, krystal_(star_fox) and krystal_(dinosaur_planet) are separate character tags to distinguish the two versions of the character, so which would warfare_krystal refer to? This becomes even worse if the same modeller makes models for different characters that have the same name. So if Warfare Machine and Valorlynz made Krystal models for both her Star Fox and Dinosaur Planet designs, how would the tags distinguish that?

In these cases, it would be better to have a separate modeller tag with the normal character tag. "warfare_machine krystal_(star_fox)" works well enough, without needing a unique character tag for each unofficial design/model of each character. See topic #45003.

Updated

Ideally we need modeller tags, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

It's just a little ridiculous that we don't tag voice actors because "we only tag the visual portion of the image", but when we come to 3D works we don't tag the person that spent ages creating the model that is the clear focus of the post - only the person who posed and rendered it.
