I have a harpy eagle character on this site listed as piero.
Issue is that never was his name, it was a misunderstanding between myself and a friend.
A previous character of mine is named piero, not this one.

How can I go about verifying character ownership and renaming?

There is no need to verify ownerships or anything like that. Anyone can change tags on posts freely as long as the account has existed for long enough (in most cases). All you have to do is to open the post in question, click on the edit button, and remove the name tag.

I've tried it before but someone keeps undoing the change. I can try again but if it keeps happening I'm unsure of what to do.

I checked your tag history, and you have not made any changes in past 4 months, and none of your tag edits is you removing character tags. Did you remember to save the tag edits after doing them?

You're correct, my apologies. I must have done that incorrectly. I'll try it now.

Seems that you figured it out :) I went ahead and changed the new tag's type to character tag.
