Heya people. As title says, if anyone can lend me a hand in animating nsfw in sfm I’d appreciate it. I understand HOW to animate, but things like getting a basic thrusting/fucking motion I feel I can do with some help on.

I have attempted working with Source Film Maker a while ago, but couldn't get anywhere with it. But what I want to tell you is advice I gained from watching SFMs…
Yeah, yeah, taking advice from a dust-covered noob, I know. But please, hear me out.
You want to avoid clipping. I have seen SFM videos where fingers of characters clip through objects. An object clipping through a hand while a character picks it up rather than the fingers wrapping around the object and lifting it. The cock clipping through the breasts instead of the breasts forming around the cock during a titfuck. The fingers clipping through the penis instead of squeezing it during a handjob. The tits clipping through the table rather than being pressed against it. The dick clipping into a crotch rather than the pussy actually expanding to accept the cock. Especially the last one. There have been so many animations ruined with the penis just clipping the flesh rather than fucking the actual vagina.

It's kinda funny because I feel like I have picked up a lot of cues how to animate characters so I might be opposite where I don't know how to animate in SFM, but I know how animating stuff works.

The best thing I could say is that remember that stuff has mass. If you jump up, you don't just go from ground to midair and back linearly, your body has mass that takes bit time to start moving, then slowly decelerate and then gravity pulls that mass back down. If you have stomach or breasts, those move independandly from rest of your body and they usually like lag behind because they have bit more weight and body pulls them for initial movement.
That's best way to visualize it, but you can see character thrusting their dick forward, even their hands should still be moving as the whole body is connected mass.

Because whenever I see newbie SFM animations uploaded, which happens a lot, primary thing is that characters are lifeless and weightless dolls and main purpose of getting dick into hole was achieved so it was left at that.

And yes, many principles are same with 2D and 3D, so just learning to animate in general will get you long way and nowdays you can literally just start from youtube tutorials.

When you are making frames for the initial animation, and you are getting the ground work set for when PP go in hole, I would assume rather than having keyframe one be start of thrust and two be when it is in hole, there’d instead be another keyframe in between those two points that is slightly above/below so it arcs a bit when put in motion?

If I sound like a lunatic forgive me. I am trying to crack the code a bit so my workflow goes smoother.
