Topic: Tag implication: christian_flag -> christian_symbol

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

If there's literally only one post with this tag, you might just want to replace christian_flag with christian_symbol on that post.

The purpose of tags is to search for or blacklist a common element, and the christian_flag tag is useless for that purpose: no one is searching for or blacklisting that specific thing.

prominence really shouldn't be the main determining factor of whether a tag is valid or not. to me this tag seems perfectly valid in just about every way.

the main purpose of tags is to lable recognizable characters, objects, symbols, etc. in a scene. you really only need to start bringing up, like, tagging philosophy when you start getting into more abstract concepts and stuff.

It seems like the usefulness or redundancy of a tag has been relevant in discussions about other tags, though.

utility only really needs to be questioned when talking about multi-factor tags, stuff that's an unnecessarily specific combo tag, or is just potentially incompatible with the tagging system.

christian_flag is well defined and couldn't possibly be entirly covered by other existing tags.

Admittedly I'm a little cautious when people create tags that are only ever going to be used a small handful of times, but the fact it's a well-established flag that was created 127 years ago rather than an invented design well justifies it for me. We would tag a character even if they only appear in one post, after all.

Regarding the redundancy, it would be very difficult to specifically find a Christian flag among all the other christian_symbol posts. Searching christian_symbol flag doesn't help either because there's not an actual flag in the one image.
