I was considering suggesting more, but other characters I can think of have barely any or no art associated with them.

As far as I remember, all of these characters appear in other non-DKC labeled games (though, admittedly I don't remember who Kalypso is). I'm leaning towards implicating them to donkey_kong_(series) instead just because there's no guarantee that any of these characters won't appear outside of DKC.

Which makes me wonder, is there really much of a need for the donkey_kong_country tag? It seems to serve an identical purpose to donkey_kong_(series) but without anything obvious to distinguish it.

It depends. Hwever I wasn't actually aware that the other (new) DK games were considered to be under DKC. The newest I've played was the one for 64, and only briefly...so I'm a bit more out of the loop than I'd realized.

But yeah, the wiki's just an excerpt copy-pasted from wikipedia; we're actually pretty wide open with what we can do with the tag at this point. Most people don't really make much of a distinction between the Donkey Kong of the arcade games and the newer series, so I'm thinking one of the two would be better than both, but I'm open to suggestions.

I do think that having the mario_bros tag imply donkey_kong_(series) would be highly impractical, and I highly doubt it would ever happen. Even if it is technically correct from a historical standpoint it doesn't really accomplish much for searches, and may actually confuse things by dumping all of mario_bros into donkey_kong_(series) (similar to how we purposely don't have an implication of human to primate). This analogy is surprisingly fitting...

only names i don't remember out of those listed here are kalypso (just checked and yeah, pretty sure i've never seen her before) and candy ran the save points for the first DKC, right? still, i'm kinda like parasprite on this with the N64 game being the newest DKC game i've played (unless you count the gba/NDS games i've played via emulation).

according to wikipedia's Donkey_Kong_Country_(series) page theres just 6 games to the main DKC series:

DKC, DKC 2:Diddy's Kong Quest, DKC 3:Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, DK64, DKC Returns, and DKC Tropical Freeze

i've only ever played the first 4 of those games myself though that's mostly due my lack of any real interest in most new games after xbox360. with the focus on graphics in newer games (which can lead to sacrifices in other areas such as gameplay, which is something i look for in particular in games. i'd glad;y accept a game in ps2 or genesis/snes era graphics if it had lots of content and great gameplay to make up for it.) i've just lost interest in new games over time, preferring to stick to emulation of older ones instead.

i'd check those 2 games out except i don't really care for the 3ds (the whole 3-d thing is a gimmick, nothing more, really. least that's my opinion of the 3ds anyway.) and i don't have a wii u but i am quite tempted to save up for that console, what with all the mario games and stuff (and mario kart 8 for the koopalings).

found that album, harmony of heroes, not too long ago and it has some nice tracks in it. another track which you can probably find on youtube is based on the MOTHER games: M.O.T.H.E.R.F.U.o_O.E.R!
