Topic: Tag Implication: rathalos -> monster_hunter

Yes, Rathian is typically Green/Pink/Gold, while Rathalos is Red/Azure/Silver (and even the color differences mark them as a subspecies in the game). They are separate species (Rathian is always female, Rathalos is always male), but are commonly seen together in pairs/groups.

Honestly, not too sure how to answer this question well enough. As a player, they are separate species, and have their subtle differences (Rathian has a very big chin spike and is bigger while Rathalos has larger spikes in general and funky little ear covers) as well as the more obvious difference in their wing markings . Though to an outsider, they look similar and of the same species. The problem there would be that they don't have an overall "species", just known to many as the "Rath" family, with the separate two within that.

I will say that if Rathian and Rathalos are lumped together in a single tag (it seems like that's what your question hints at), people won't be very happy with that kind of change. If I'm looking for Rathian art, I'm looking for Rathian art.

Thanks for the explanation, that really helps clear this up. :)

Normally we try to avoid gender-specific species tags ("nicknames") as they don't work very well with how we tag things, particularly with nonbinary genders. For example, bull, bitch, and doe were all aliased away in favor of cattle, dog, and deer which require less maintanance to keep them tagged properly.

Since there isn't really a way to lump them together anyways, and since they have distinct differences that are tagable by themselves (and are generally seen as different species (as much as nidoran♂ and nidoran♀ are different species), I went ahead and approved both this and the one in forum #162359.
