Topic: People who think E621 is FA

Posted under General

This topic has been locked.

Has anyone noticed a new flood of users who think this is FA? From demanding to hear no criticism on their bad art, to reporting peoples comments 2 times in a row with the reason "This is my pic and I want this comment removed." even after they where told no before. Or where they go on a comment wart about their 3 year old baby male, being tagged as such, even though the artist spams the char is "5000 years old and a homosexual female" even though none of that is in the image.

I cant help but laugh at this, its like they expect e621 has a huge comment filter where they can delete whatever so other people cant see a user pointing out where they failed at art or something.

Anyone else notice this? or find it funny when users do things like the examples above?

Well, for one thing, E621 allows you to view porn at your leisure. It doesn't have that goddamn age-lockout mechanism that FA does. We should be thankful for that.

Updated by anonymous

Well, this is mostly because FA and its hugbox of a comment center, encourage this kind of behavior...

Updated by anonymous

I havent heard of this person refusing to allow criticism, (I'm assuming it's just one person and not actually a flood), also there has been no ticket submitted three times in a row for that, or any reason. There was one guy, who asked twice, but not in a row, and I'm not privvy to any 5000 year old cub drama either. Last time anyone even said 5000 in the comments (other than you) was months ago, and it didn't involve cubs. So iono.

Did you mean without an account? Or accounts listed under a certain age cant view porn?

The no criticism was a few users over the past few months, but the art i think was deleted for being shit however before it was there was a comment rage that was funny to read. - As for the 3 times in a row, I meant twice :v but I have also seen requests like that in comments, some even hostile. The 5000 year old thing was an example of the tag what you see rule being broken.

Hope that clears things up? c:

Accounts of users under 18 cannot view porn, no matter how hard they try. Sure, you can change your age, unlike deviantart, but lying about your age has consequences. :(

Updated by anonymous

You can't set your age on here, unless you give it away. That's how admins get them (that or reporting users for underageism - act of being underage)

In other sites, well, you do have to set up your age before browsing (FA, dA, Facebook - for extemely rare pages and apps, I guess twitter too, YouTube, etc).

On topic: What I've seen is that when the artist (who has an account here too) - sometimes the uploader - does'nt like the comment, that comment just gets downvoted, pretty much like DjWolfbeats' comments (who I think is being followed just for the sake to downvote his comments, but that might be just me, not the one who downvotes his comments)

I am under 18, but so close. And I believe minors should have the ability to view 18+ content when they learn about Sex Ed in school. When viewing something willfully, it isn't the same as being abducted and being forced to partake in it.

I learned about sex ed many years ago at the age of 13...are you saying you are 13?

As long as lawyers don't see it that way, then sites like this have to be strict and arbitrary. You'll probably get some kind of temporary suspension from a mod until you can legally be on here (that's my best guess of what will happen). But based on what you said, that may not actually be that far into the future. It's not always about what's reasonable/logical, sometimes it's just the law. It would have to be changed first. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of those people who grows up to change laws like that. Best of luck to you in any case.

Stop asking users how old they are. Just stop, please. You're doing it specifically to find out if they're under 18 or not. Stop.

I only asked as their wording was a bit odd to bring up a age system, I wasnt doing it specifically to find out info. I was merely curious, however I apologize if asking someone their age makes you upset. However as furrypickle mentioned, this site has a strict age rule...however it now seems like you are just ignoring underage users, and keeping it on a "dont ask dont tell" line.

._. that honestly makes no sense to me. I dont mean to offend or upset you, please understand that.

It's something I've seen you and other users do before. As soon as you suspect that someone is under 18, you start trying to get them to admit it, or start trying to dig up the information elsewhere. That is a witch-hunt, and that's far more harmful to the site than someone who is seventeen years old having an account on it (banning accounts does not prevent access to the site's pornographic content).

Conker said:

I'm a little surprised that you would make such a statement to me, considering the vast amount of time and effort I put into this site during my 2.5 years as its lead admin. It sounds as if you're trying to accuse me of being lazy. I assure you that that is not the case, and I believe my intense dedication to this site over all this time should be more than enough proof of that.

Allow me to blow you guys' mind here for a moment: there is no law or any such legal requirement saying that we have to prevent minors from accessing the site. None to the best of my knowledge.

http://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/for-an-adult-website-should-i-have-a-page-asking-u-628565.html

Internet Lawyer said:
"Congress has attempted on 2 occasions to pass laws requiring age verification for adult websites. Both laws were declared unconstitutional. The Supreme Court struck down the Communications Decency Act (CDA), and the Third Circuit Court of Appeal struck down the Child Online Protection Act (COPA), after two trips to the Supreme Court, which remanded the case back to the lower courts both times. Bottom line; there is no federal law mandating age verification for adult sites."

Again, no user account is required to access the pornographic material on e621. People are free to do so completely anonymously, and we have no idea what their age is or if it's legal for them to browse such content.

The age rule on e621 is in place because this is an adult-oriented site, and so adults are who we want to populate it with. Had MettalScan openly proclaimed somewhere that he was under 18, then yeah, he probably would be banned for it. But this practice I keep seeing of basically trying to hunt down underage users is not one that e621 should be encouraging or endorsing.

So yes, it's basically don't-ask-don't-tell. Concentrate on the users that are actually causing e621 real problems.

I apologize for the end half of that statement, I noticed after I posted it might come off as rude so I edited out before you posted this. I never meant to imply you are lazy, I just found it odd that asking someone their age makes you upset, thats all.

I never said there was any law of anything, I said site rules, not laws. I never wanted to bring up laws into this to begin with. I thought the site rules had said not to make an account if you are under the age of 18, this has nothing to do with accessing porn.

So why is it some users are banned for being underage (When they have done no harm), yet others are ignored?

This is the only exception I've ever made personally, I am not familiar with any other users having exceptions made for them before.

And again, this didn't "come out". You directly asked him how old he was, because you wanted him to admit that he was under 18, so you could report him for being under 18. I don't know why else you'd suddenly be interested in learning about this user's age, but please correct me if I'm wrong and you were just suddenly like "hey I like this guy, I wonder if he's around my age!".

I'm making an exception for him because of the methods used against him. Though I'm not the lead admin of this site anymore, and so I may be overruled, or another admin may decide to go ahead and ban them if they wish. I have no authority to prevent them from doing so. But my hope is that the other admins see and understand why trying to hunt down users like this does more harm than good.

The user posted about the age lock on fa porn twice, I even asked if he meant without an account? Or accounts listed under a certain age that cant view porn? | Even before I asked he was being open about it. I merely asked due to his 2 comments before as they struck me as a bit strange.

I mean I only made an FA account to view porn as they had the porn lock when you had no account. It wasnt even about age, so thats why I asked if it was that or not.

Complaining that FA has an age verification mechanism is absolutely no indication that the person complaining is under age. Age verification is annoying for plenty of adults too. Have you never been annoyed by websites asking you to verify your age before? Happens to me pretty often on YouTube and Steam, just to name two off the top of my head. e621 lacking such a system is seen as a good thing by many users. No need to bother going through the trouble of logging in to your account just so you can find that one porn pic that you want to show your friend.

Again, if you disagree with me here then you are more than welcome to bring it to Dave's attention (EDFDarkAngel). He is e621's lead admin currently, and I will answer to him.

The user gave a lot of indication that it was about being underage. Why would they complain about lying about their age and dealing with consequences? Its a clear indication that the person complaining is underage.

Now getting back on the thread's subject, doesnt FA allow nude avatars unless it features a few law breaking things they do not like in them...unlike e621? Besides the child porn thing fa dealt with, didnt it have a few other touchy subjects?

If there are no legal things involved then I really don't see a point of banning underage users. Some time ago one underage user was banned. He uploaded some explicit art. Art which was made by him. It wasn't taken down. It's kind of silly saying that he's not allowed to the site, but his art is.

Of course I'm all for banning people who act immature no matter what their real age is.

So, I'm going to get banned? I heard the minimum age to join Deviantart is 13. You want to know how old I really am? 16. Ich bin 16 jahre alt. I'm off by two years. Doesn't make much of a difference. Young people can have rights! I'm not even here to POST porn!

Oh God man. Yes, young people should and do have rights, but accessing a site for people over 18? Yes, it's a don't-ask-don't-tell policy, you know what that means?

It means "DON'T COME HERE. WE DO NOT CARE IF YOU SAY YOU WON'T POST PORN JUST GO AWAY OR JUST DON'T TELL PEOPLE YOUR AGE THAT WAY YOU CAN STAY HERE".

Oh, and yeah. Have fun with your 3 year ban.

I can't really defend 16. If you were like, 17.5 or something I could be all "does this REALLY matter?", but even I can't really agree with 16. Sorry.

Correct. Arizona has a general obscenity law that includes a section about allowing access to harmful materials to minors. Nothing explicit such as what we're discussing, but it has been used to that effect before.
