Topic: The Photo tag thread

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Okay, I have loved this tag for awhile now, the photo tag. Its allowed me to find great images of the real world, and has lead me to some great images.

However sadly I have noticed someone going out of their way to nuke the tag off the site, sometimes not even putting the tag back or trying to place it with photography_(art) tag. This seems unnecessary since the Photo tag covers it all, and not all photos are art as this new tag implies..

So due to this mess....could we decide what tag to go with? Photo is so much easier tag to use and I see no reason to get rid of it. It just seems like tag vandals nuking tags for another that wasnt even discussed. Can some admin fix this or at least for us to have some tag discussion before any more photo tags are nuked off images?
----------
On a side note: Can someone help me clean up this mess know as photography_(art) and put back the rightful tag of Photo in its place? I would do it myself but there is a lot of images that has had its tagged swapped and I cant do it all this morning >.<

Photo should be used for images that contain photos. Photography_(art) should be used for actual photographs that have been uploaded. Thus, a photo of a photo would have both tags. That's my opinion, anyways.

But not all photographs are art. They are just photos that somehow get approved due to animals being cute or funny or something just scary. I could understand if the tag [photo]] was turned into photography however I dont see the point in just making the tag longer for the same thing. As photo is full of real photos not used for drawings.

Photography_(art) has only RL photos, why I said that.

Use the real tag for images which are themselves photos of IRL.

It says in the wiki that photo is for fantasy images depicting pictureframes with photographic prints in them etc.

The wiki can be edited by anyone. It doesnt have to be photos of prints of art, it can also be used in any photo of people or even landscape. The real tag is for unedited photos, not every photo of real life.

I bring up the wiki-entry for photo not because I'm under the illusion that it was handed down by Anubis himself but rather because that's what conscientious taggers (many of whom don't use the forums) already think is the convention for tagging. If you do a changeup on them they will just remember what the tag used to be and you'll have to constantly sweep up after them, perhaps forever.

The de-facto standard:

  • Real is for actual photos of not-art.
  • Photo is for drawn art containing framed pictures or polaroids
    • and possibly: photographic images containing printed photos (unframed or framed, like in the halls of a fancy convention center or hotel behind some 'suiters).

As a sidenote, I've cleaned up photography_(art). It took me about 60 seconds in edit-post mode.

If someone would like to propose a tag that's specifically for photographs of drawings or furry sculptures, we could maybe use photo_of_art or something like that to make searches just a touch cleaner for later.

Problem is, someone changed the wiki then changed the tag. So now we had a problem of tag use. Anyway thanks for helping clearing the tag mess up
