I don't know if anyone considered this but red and auburn are two different colors. Auburn hair, biologically, has a greater concentration of eumelanin than does red hair and a higher concentration of pheomelanin than brown hair, putting it at an intermediate position relative to those other two hair colors.

Sure, there are individual people with hair color that is intermediate between "Irish red" and auburn, and could be considered as having red hair or auburn hair, depending upon the viewer's ability to distinguish colors, but most people with one or the other of these hair colors are easily classifiable.

I'd say don't alias these together.
