Most of these I noticed thanks to this image's tags

character serves no use as all characters have a special green character tag name. It should be aliased to invalid_tag.

general could be kept to refer to army generals. It would need its wiki updated and the images tagged with it cleaned.

species is just as useless as character and for the similar reasons. It too should be aliased to invalid_tag.

Lastly, viewer is just relic from a botched attempted at tagging looking_at_viewer using spaces instead of underscores. It should be aliased to invalid_tag.

While I'm at it, can I bring in to question the existence of the looking tag? It's not very specific. It begs the question "looking at what?" Anything with its eyes open is looking at something. I think it either needs to be terminated or have its wiki updated.

They are not tags. They are things to label other tags, example character:name general:gun species:dog

And that's just the ones that are currently not tagged to any posts at all. There's PLENTY more that are tagged to very few images, but that doesn't mean they're useless of course.

You haven't been around for that long, have you? o.o Those are indeed tags from the days of old, before the catagory system was put in. I'm surprised they're still around, myself; I thought they had been purged.

I'd bet that a lot of them are from old tagging projects and DNP that got cleaned up but left the tag floating in limbo. ._. That's a hell of a lot of tags.

Well, they are listed in the image I linked to as tags. As categories, they are just fine. As tags, they need to go. I see now that these "tags" exist only as a botched attempt to tag something like "character:morca" where they instead typed in something like "character morca".

Some of these are recent. So yes I have been around long enough, I have even fixed a few new users mess when they put spaces between species and dog. So yesh -.-

Then I'm surprised you didn't remember they were tags, and at least double-check the links he provided for us to see that they were indeed tags that had been resurrected. And I didn't mean the posts with the tag are old, I meant the tags themselves. It wasn't meant as an insult, by the way; I just figured that because you'd said they weren't tags that you weren't around back then.

Moving on; Looking should just be aliased to looking_at_viewer. That's all it seems to be, people tagging looking_at_viewer or tagging "look" or "looking" when it should just be looking_at_viewer. The rest I agree with.

Also due to the few users who keep placing unneeded spaces when tagging, most of these are new mess ups -.- so thats why I didnt mention any older systems of tagging as its unnecessary to at this point.

Sidenote: General tag can be used for army generals, so its not one of those so called useless tags, however some have been mess ups as I already mentioned due to it also being used in labeling other tags.

Honestly? I thought that the catagory system went back that far. character, general, and species don't seem like tags that are new messups... unless you mean like someone tagging "general:charred" and they type it "general : charred"? ...I can see some people doing that, so. Bleh.

Yeah, Grey also noted that general can be used for that and I agree to that. Personally I'd suggest we change that attribution to Army_General just to clear up any mistagging confusion, but, that's me.

And likely in small enough quantities that they just get cleaned up instead of aliased, over the years.
