Topic: Reposts ?

So, I generally don't bother about my uploads being deleted, in fact I pretty much don't care at all. However, I was checking about if there was some picture from Crepix (Cre as a display name on Pixiv) and I indeed found one. What was weird at first was I was pretty sure that I uploaded that picture a while ago, then THE HORROR happened : Someone else uploaded it (post #417423).

So I thought that it was a repost, so I searched for the one I uploaded. For some reason, it was the parent post. Apparently, it was deleted as "Being a repost", the funny detail about it was mine was uploaded 12 days ago, while the other one was uploaded 7 days ago, also, I get the picture directly from Pixiv in full resolution as usual, so I have no idea how the picture that got uploaded 5 days ago was able to be uploaded without automatically being detected as already posted here, but still, I just find that funny how the older post uploaded is the "guilty" one.

Again, I'm not mad about this incident, I just think that details like how mine was uploaded days before shouldn't be easily ignored like this. I remember one time years ago, when one picture got deleted because apparently it was an inferior version, but in fact, the "superior" one was a JPEGed resized one of the original picture.

If you uploaded it first, then the other one should be deleted. The only way I can see yours being deleted is because the other was bigger or better quality, not by repost.

So I "investigated" about the case, and it seems like the preview picture, even when it is not resized, has a different value. It's pretty weird since they both, preview and full views are both PNG (When the picture is small enough to not need to be resized) and when comparing them, there is absolutely 0 difference/compressions (I verified at a 800% zoom) but they still have different file sizes. So that's how the 2nd picture was able to be uploaded without being automatically detected as Repost.

So, my picture should have been deleted as "Inferior" post (even if like I said, there is 0 visual differences) and not as a Repost, that was the only part of the situation that bugged me a little. Case dismissed !

Actually, NOT dismissed! If there was no difference EXCEPT filesize, then that might be one of the images where someone has tacked on a secondary file to the image (we actually had a recent thread about this very topic). What were the filesizes, if you don't mind me asking?

I think you should better ask an admin to see what happened (since they can actually see the image from a deleted post), also I've had a similar experience with pixiv and getting different file sizes from the same image, I don't know what's up with that, but yeah it happens.

Op, You should ask an admin to check the two files for you....this might just be a mistake and could be fixed.

Like I said, I don't really mind about it, and I'm not asking to have my upload back, I only was wondering why and how mine was being a Repost.
I always am very careful when I upload (Minus my very first time being here, but I quickly rectified that) and I ended up only having 28 deleted for now, very often being my own flags for having found a better version.

If you're still interested about it, I made a picture briefly giving details about the case :

Just ask an admin, they can tell you why.

have you tried opening the big image with 7zip?

I don't see why I should do that since both pictures are from Pixiv (I heard about that trick for hiding files inside a single one).

I just checked, and there's nothing hidden. They simply are two different PNG compressions, and one of them is simply more effective than the other

EDIT : I just checked the file details. One has a 24-bits colors while the other one is 32-bits. Well, here's why. Not sure, but I think there's no difference at all, beside 32-bits being able to be transparent. EDIT2 : 24 and 32 are indeed the same colors compressions, but 32-bits is for being able to use alpha channel backgrounds

Yeah, I've seen that happen a few times. If the images look 1:1 identical, the one with larger filesize is kept.

Here's an another dupe pair that I haven't flagged yet:

The smaller one is directly from Inkbunny, the larger one is from tumblr and seems to have been recompressed. But they look identical, as far as I can see. In cases such as this, shouldn't the original be kept, even if it's smaller?
