Yes it does. Hyenas are the family Hyaenidae, and spotted hyenas, striped hyenas, brown hyenas, and aardwolves are the four species of hyenas.

They look pretty much like hyenas to me. I think I'd be in favor of this implication.

Aardwolves are hyenas, just like Corgis are dogs.

yeah, they're in the Hyaenidae family and are on occasion even called "civet hyenas".

So are striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena).
Purely by TWYS, I'd find it very difficult to differentiate aardwolves from those; especially if they're anthros.
Not my area of expertise, but seems like aardwolves are a newish addition to the hyena family. So yes, they're hyenas. For now, at least. I see no problems with this implication.
