Topic: Need a name for this.

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Anthropomorphic mammals are known as furries.
Anthropomorphic reptiles are called scalies.

We need a name for anthropomorphic insects/arthropods/arachnids.

There is a name for this, actually... which my search-fu is completely failing at. It was something I found on R34, and it's not commonly used... but it would be perfect.

UGH. Now this is going to irritate me all day.

I'm pretty sure as cheesy and not creative as it may be, insectoid was/is the term

How about chitinies ?

Kinda like the the sound of that.

Are you kidding? Well turns out it actually is a tag. With only 10 entries. Easy enough to weed out.

crawlies :p

Mmm...

Nah.

Again, are you kidding? Damn it Moon Moon!

Jatix has the right idea here, I'm thinking either chitinies/chitinites or something related to carapace.

Sounds interesting, let me know when you find it. I'm still looking for possibilities as well.

Chites.

Nah. I don't think there's any word for them. It's the same with avians: hardly anyone calls themselves feathery, mainly because everybirdy thinks it sounds odd.

Anthro insects are generally called insectoids in RPGs, though.

Mammal = Furry
Reptile = Scalie
Aquatic = Marine (insert military joke here)
Insect = Insectoid
Avian = Ave

Considered chities. Then i said it out loud. sounds like "kitties". So that's a no for obvious reasons.

Got it. Insect => Insecties => 'secties, or just secties.

Of course there's the whole spiders aren't insects thing, but for the sake of tagging your community, exceptions can be made.

Now, how do I go about making it an official tag?

And avian bros, try beakies, feathies or avies.

They're insectoids. No need to try to cutesify the name further.

Ya, same to be said for equinnoids, canidoid, felinoids, reptiloids...

Come on. The insect lover community demands respect, a voice, and a cutsified alias.

I'm going with sectie until someone makes a better suggestion or tells me how to ratify a tag.

Name them cuties...can't get more cutsified than that

Let's go with this. :3

It's going to remain insectoid as insectie is like taking a widely used term and add a cutesy part to it

I'm tempted to.

But it's too long. I'll end up forgetting what order they're in.

Also, it appears as i'm on the edge of being made a laughing stock. If need be, i'll start throwing around pics of sexy/cute sects till you gain a fetish for them.

You know I will.

You say that like some of us don't already like sexy insectoids.

Seriously, Insectoid is fine.

I should really stop saying anything on this site after 9:00. I say stupid stuff. :P

I'm cool with insectoid, for now. It appears that I'm trying to push a change too fast.

And for the record, by a fetish, I usually mean an inability to be aroused/reach orgasm without a certain object. That is what a true fetish is, after all.

Yeah, basically you can't force words into accepted use. That's not how language works. I don't think anyone sat down and invented the word 'furries'. It just kinda grew out of a community. You want a cuter word for bugs? Gonna need more bug people!

That said, I think the word you're looking for is something either derived out of carapace or exoskeleton. Both of these are made of a material called chitin.
You could try 'caraclesse' or 'chitters' or 'chitties'. But no one would know what the hell you were talking about.

EDIT: Also that last one is a soft consonant sound away from 'shitty'

Correct.
Like so many other things, it originated on the Usenet.

alt.fan.furry was created to discuss anthropomorphic genre fiction, named like that because most anthros had fur. The newsgroup grew, and the participants started to call themselves furries...because of the group name.

Thanks Etymology man!

"an object or nongenital part of the body, as a shoe, or hank of hair, that is repeatedly preferred for achieving sexual excitement."

Preferred, not "only way". Your definition of fetish is the most close-minded attribution to that meaning I've ever heard.

"1. Something, such as an object or nonsexual part of the body, that arouses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual gratification."

~ American Heritage dictionary.

It is quite possible, though rare, which is also how I use the word.

So you are telling me.

That if I spam "sectie" (or another suitable term {still not decided}) on all insectoid pictures.

It might become a legit buzzword?

First off, chitin is prounounced kite-in, so it already sounds like kitty.

Also, how did the term scalie become a thing then?

MAY. The word that is defined as, "to indicate possibility". Not MUST or WILL FOR SURE. If it does end up with them requiring the fetish to be aroused, that is more a factor of a person's strength of fetish than anything else, and is certainly not required nor standard. You don't define a word based on the rare occurances that MIGHT result but on the common ones- even if the rarer usage is noted as well in archaic form or as a possibility or extension of the original common meaning.

Also, how did the term scalie become a thing then?

Reptilian things have scales (and scutes) instead of fur. So, as there was the furry usenet group, scaly group, turned into scalies, I'd presume. That, or the term was modelled after 'furries' in the same manner (effectively the same).
