There is a subconscious reason behind every fetish. There is also one behind every fear and behind every passion. It is often hard to find the subconscious reason behind a fetish because well. It's subconscious. It is easier to find them in regard to a passion (like) or a fear. (dislike)

For example I developed an interest and -passion- for electrical engineering after I electrocuted my friend in grade 2 using a low voltage Tesla coil. And my irrational fear of nothing being stable enough to hold up my weight when climbing comes from when I was a child climbing a tree and a branch gave out below me. (I was climbing a basically dead tree. My fault, but I didn't fall)

My bloodplay fetish comes from when I was a child as well. (As they often do) And I used to put pennies in my mouth because of the taste the copper had. I did this often and tho it was a bad idea I kept doing it for a long time. After a certain age I stopped and the want/need for the taste never went away. The copper/metallic taste of blood then brings back that taste and there you go. Blood fetish.

I was wondering if anyone else had discovered the subconscious reason behind their fetish's. There is always a reason for your likes/dislikes/fetish's/passions/loves/hates. It's impossible to determine fully what a person's aspirations, fetishes, and fears stem from unless there was a stark traumatic/memorable event/series of events. You may think that you like bloodplay from the pennies, when it's really just a convergence of countless things that have happened to you, and the blood reminds you of the coppery taste. There are hundreds of theories talking about the origin of fetishes. Hardly any of them agree.

Sigmund Freud was wrong. We're in to what we're conditioned to be in to. I would never deny that idiosyncratic experiences are important to who you are, but I think most things you associate with your identity, from your morals to sexual fetishes, were imbued into you by the culture(s) you grew up in and were exposed to. There are, of course, aspects of the mind which could be called subconscious, but lets not think of the subconscious as a madman who draws together sympathies in a random and chaotic fashion, using modes of thought not conditioned to it by society.

He was a big deal in psychology, and without him we wouldn't be where we are today, but his ideas in the end turned out wrong.

I was way in to mythology when I was a kid. Mostly Greek and Roman stuff (though they're sorta the some thing). I like learning about the mythological monsters the most though. In fact, it influences my writing today. So yeah, that might be a reason.
