So what if they are?
I've studied enough genealogy to know that people marry their cousins all the time. Most just don't know about it. But if you marry someone who was born in the same area, the chances are that you're marrying a close relative.

It's not so common nowadays, though. Moving to an another city is far easier than it used to be. And I suppose that America was always a bit of an exception, since the settlers came from so many different regions.
