Should the wiki page of an artist list other artists with a similar style?

It would be useful for finding similar artwork, but I'm worried that some might take offense. There are tags like realistic and toony, but they are underused and do not describe anything in between.

There are two possible problems though: deciding whether or not two artists are similar, and artists which use more than one style. I'm wondering what people think about this suggestion, and if there is a solution to its problems.

Some instances they are the same artist as well, but keep safe and explicit art separate.

This would be a great idea to have at the bottom of artist wiki pages a "similar artists" section, so long as the theme of safe or explicit is also upheld

Telling you right now, bad things will happen when random people tell artists that their art is similar to another artist's style, whether true or not. Will not turn out well :o

Do you mean if an artist only does safe or only does explicit, then artists listed as similar should also do only safe or only explicit?

That was one of my main concerns.

I agree with Camkitty. While it might be helpful for some users, I know that there are artists that HATE having their work compared to other artist's stuff. There are also some who would take this as an accusation that they're copying or ripping off another artist's style.

I got to agree with SirAntagonist and CamKittty the amount of things that piss people off on the internet is staggering I would vote against the idea as well...

I find it beneficial to list similar themes for artists, because it would help people blacklist them/search for them

True.

This can only lead to bad things.

So it sounds like it would be better to describe the artist's style and content. But that won't really make it any easier to find new artists.

Similar theme & content over style. Don't say that X draws like Y, but that X draws the same type of stuff as Y.

I'm kind of agreeing with CamKitty here. Enough artists already hate e612.

Some artists were openly mentored by other artists, and their style usually ends up being similar so I'm not sure if it would annoy them.

Yeah, for those it likely wouldn't matter, but it'd still be a possible issue if they ever tried to distance their style from their mentor's and it gets compared disfavourably. Or if the mentor is surpassed by the student, and jealousy flares.

Describe what they draw, paint, etc. rather than how their work appears from a stylistic standpoint. That would certainly help to avoid unnecessary conflict.

Would the medium that they work in be an appropriate thing to note? It seems useful to know if an artist uses paint, pencil, flash, 3D, etc. And it's something they usually disclose on other sites.

Those are actually all already tagged I think, but they're kind of neglected as tags.

I think it would.
