Name your top five favorite video games and then the five video games you hate the most. It doesn't matter what platform or genre, it can even be some online MMO.

Loved, in no particular order:
Suikoden 1, 2, 5
Ace combat 4, 5
DmC Devil May Cry
Saints Row 2, 3, 4
Destroy all humans 1, 2

Honorable mention: Everything by Criterion, Thatgamecompany, David Jaffe

Hated:
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Anything by Black Box
Call of Duty (call me a hipster, I only hate them because they're too mainstream)
Twisted metal 3, 4, Small Brawl

Updated by anonymous

Maybe it's because I never played the original games so I didn't have any real loyalty, but I worshipped the anime. I see DMC in DmC lol. The bosses could've been more original, but that's about it.

Yeah, I can probably understand how the 'real fans' felt about it.

But still, I love it.

Laughed my ass off when a wig of Dante's original hairstyle fell on his head and he took it off, saying "not a chance!"

So maybe I'll just list my faves out of the ones that I've played recently...

Football Manager 2013 (another timesink)
Saints Row: the Third
Witcher 2

It's not so much GTA as it is NFS. I grew up around that genre- picked up every one of them from 3 to the modern hot pursuit. You hate my childhood. :c that's my job!

Not even close. GTA is a story-driven sandbox game that makes a lot of video games look like horse shit in comparison. I'd bet $100 that you have never played the first five minutes of any GTA game.

HAHAHAHAHA. Dude, no it wasn't. Need for Speed had real cars. Comparing Mario Kart to Need for Speed is like comparing a cardboard box to the Empire State Building.

Again for me storyline, level design, plot, the occasional breaking of the fourth wall, and good actual attempts at SUTLE horror and violence, and good graphics of course, for me what scores points in my book for games if it is only lacking one or two things often I can overlook it Amnesia had the sutlety that you were slowly losing your mind hence why you monitor the sanity gauge the jumpscares are only a BACKDROP for the true horror that you are slowly losing your mind and the last of us again level design, graphics, and plot I could overlook the occasional gore and violence like I said if it is lacking in one or two I can often overlook it

You said Need for Speed is a clone of Mario Kart. They are not even remotely similar. They both have cars, that's it. Mario Kart is a racing game for younger kids. Need for Speed is a series of games that have the newest high-end supercars. It's not at all fair to compare them, to be honest.

Comparing Mario Kart to Need for Speed by the logic that they're both racing games is like comparing Halo to Duck Hunt by the logic that they're both first person shooters.

Likes:
Goat simulator -I already know I'm going to fucking love that shit.
TWEWY
Left 4 Dead 1/2
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Mirrors edge - I'm pretty psyched about the second one.

Middle Groud:
Battlefield franchise - I really liked the second one, and the 4th one is fun, they just need to work out the bugs.
Cod Zombies: If this was a stand alone game, I'd buy the shit out of it, you know if it was priced down, but the fact that its still connected to cod makes me not like it as much, like the developers could spend a hell of a lot more time doing it than doing multiplayer maps.
Guitar Hero - Really only fun to play with other people... same with rock band.

Dislikes:
The Ball
Planetside 2
Every Cod after World at War (that one was fun)
Forza/Grand Turismo
Deus Ex.

On a side note, what's your top pick for current/upcoming next gen games?

Me it's The Crew. Made by the same people behind the devastatingly beautiful and iconically pioneering, yet ultimately incomplete and flawed Test Drive Unlimited 1 & 2- the very first MOORs (Massively Open Online Racing).

And since they're freed of the defunct obscure Eden games and bumbling incompetence of cash-strapped Atari, this promises to be quite good.

Side side note (sorry for not letting this die, clarinetist): GTA V has the most breathtaking level design since TDU (above), and GTA IV had the most gripping (if not wrist cuttingly dark and depressing) storylines I've seen on this gen. (Something else in parentheses)

Liked:
Final Fantasy VIII (PS1) - first 3D game, first AAA title, first post-SNES game. ~1000 hours. yah
Unreal Tournament III (PC) - still play multiplayer on the weekends when servers populate. Co-founded a UT3 clan (~30-40 members at peak?). 2000+ hours? Extremely long skill curve with a very high ceiling. Get on my level! (jk)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2) - first sandbox game, first "violent" anything (so fun!), first shooter (I guess?). I went on many multi-hour rampages, never got bored of it. Highest praise. 10/10 -IGN
Monster Hunter (PS2, online) - challenging and fun to grind up in equipment strength. Enough depth in combat movement and targeting to encourage finesse or a self-taught style.

Honorable Mentions:
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES, 1996) - they made this in 1996 for the SNES??? So far ahead of its time that I still have difficulty comprehending the achievement.
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (SMS, 1989) - also ahead of its time. By far the most fun game among our SMS, NES, SNES, and Genesis titles, although we never owned SMRPG: LotSS.
Castle of the Winds 1, 2 (PC, 1993) - a side-scrolling roguelike. Our best, early PC game that could run on old, crappy PCs.

Disliked:
Every MMO (PC) - always became less fun the more I played, eventually leaving me with a tremendous feeling of wasted time.
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (PC) - blagh! lolno... No more TES. It was a slice.
Assassin's Creed (PC) - yawn. Bought first three from Steam sale, but the first one turned me off from the series. I don't even care if the gameplay improves. I'm done.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS) - terrible. Nearly impossible/not worth the effort to beat legitimately.
Disappointing Sequels - Ratchet: Deadlocked (PS2), Jungle & Urban Strike (SNES), and Actraiser 2 (SNES).

Looking forward to... Dark Souls II for PC, I guess. Nothing really grabs me, and I'm not particularly interested in changing that. I should actually attempt DS1, though. It's purchased, downloaded, and modded, but I just don't get hyped over new games anymore. Otherwise, I'm interested in the next Mass Effect and Dragon Age installments and any FPS battle arena genre game (e.g., UT, Quake, HAWKEN...) that hints at good gameplay (involving movement and dodging are mandatory). Oh, and Grim Dawn might be nice with the same engine and devs as Titan Quest.

I'm disappointed not more people have played ace combat 4 or 5. Easily two of the best video game storylines, past present or future. Definitely far and away the very best storylines in war games- not that they have much competition.

I had a naughty little chip in my Playstation when I was little, and my dad would sometimes bring home burned game copies fron a friend's house. Before that I had naught but a NES. Orders are as they come to mind. Yes, I play consoles. Leave me alone.

-Ace Combat 2
-Life Force
-Test Drive: Unlimited
-Oblivion

Gaems of haet:
-Far Cry 3
-Fukken Skyrim (best combat system ever though)
-Any Super Smash Bros. game
-Gran Turismo 5
-Halo 4

I like you tangent. So far as I can tell, only way I can advance in GT5 is by grinding for money. I hate that, especially in a console game. Fear the power of TDU and AC! :D

Updated by anonymous

You seem a very friendly sort as well, anon. Always so nice to everyone. Didn't expect there to be another AC (or TDU for that matter) fan around. I remember I signed up on an AC discussion forum and everyone turned out to be egomaniacal douchebags. Unfortunatley, while I was writing my sleepy list of games I liked and disliked (but before I panickingly parsed it), AC Zero found its way into the dislike pile for several reasons. 5 though, there was something special about that one (motherfucking Pops comes to mind). 3 too.

I tend to dislike later games in their series. Gran Turismos 1 though 4 were huge in my growing-up life, but 5 was so delayed and hyped up that when the actual game, itself made up of half a game of content re-used from previous games, came out I felt cheated. Likewise, Far Cry 3 was such a different game from 2 (which I loved), and Skyrim was bleak and repetetive compated to Oblivion's goofy cartoony vibrance. I guess I don't don't like how games are becoming.

One game that I hoped I could squeeze into my list is one called Aero Elite Combat Academy. I ordered it a few weeks ago (and totally crammed AC5 while I waited for delivery), and I love it. If you like realism in a flying game, anon, you might give this one a try. It addresses all the issues I had with AC, namely the lack of air, gravity, intertia, g-force, weight and loading issues, conservation of energy, your flying silo of magical missiles and extra-slow firing cannon, Nagase, and the NPCs constant, unceasing veneration of the player as some sort of sky-god incarnate. If you can find it on the cheap, definetley pick it up.

I love them Japflyers.

edit: also fuck GTA V. I don't know why everyone loves that game so much. So there.

Eh, I'm just glad cars don't become live hand grenades and explode once flipped over like they did in pre-GTA IV titles.

I always explained that to myself by way of the car's fluids spilling over the hot engine block and igniting because the GTA world would probably have asinine design flaws....fuck it, that was a stupid cop-out. It made no sense and caused more problems than it solved.

And if I'm remebering correctly you could tip them back over once they were on their side by steering in previous titles, so...yeah.

You are absoloutley correct good sir.

The SP cars are made of explodium.
Also two of the SP protagonists somehow both take the title of World's Most Boring Man.

Also the police, in SP and MP, are basically all the Nemesis from Resident Evil and will never ever stop pursuing you short of you literally hiding underground.

Favorites in no particular order...

-The classic Doom series; Ultimate, 2 and Final, along with all the community wads/mods and sourceports. It's good anytime, and can run on pretty much anything (sans a few resource hogging mods played with NUTS.wad.)

-Demolition Racer; this love is being carried over to newer projects like BeamNG's soft-bodied physics engine and BugBear's Next Car Game.

-Any of the ps1 army men games. If I'm allowed to stretch this a bit, I'd also include Army Men RTS on ps2.

-The Spyro series, first 3 to be exact. Haven't played much of the others in the "original" series, but I do have The Eternal Night (part of the new "Legend of Spyro" series. Stopped playing it after I realized it was the second, I want to start from the first, but I did enjoy it.)

-Dark Cloud 1 and 2 on ps2. Got me into similar games like Baroque. Also got me into the type of general art style I'm still not sure what to call, too.

Don't really have a hate list since I don't dwell on games I don't care for, though I can recall a few stinkers.
