Topic: What Shrek tag for character? What Shrek tag for copyright?

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

There seems to be some confusion on what tag to use for Shrek the character.

7 shrek_(character) type:character : all depicting Shrek the character.
49 shrek type:character : only about 12 include Shrek the character.

Suggest Shrek the character's tag be "shrek_(character)"

What to do with the plain "shrek" tag?

***

There also seems to be confusion on what tag to use for anything Shrek-related.

1 shrek_(movie) type:copyright
1 shrek_(film) type:general

Combine tags into Shrek_(franchise) ? Shrek_(copyright) ?
(Since there is more then one film/movie and there's also the videogames, musical, original book, and spin-off Puss in Boots (film, short & videogame).)

I would say just shrek_(franchise) to cover all the media for it as we have often done

Yeah.

You could also alias it to Shrek_(series). The same thing was done for Sonic_(series), and it has even more spin-offs, tons of games,a few movies, and several shows.

I shreckon that'd also be an option.

Hmm. I suppose it'd be good to have a standard for those, and since *_(series) is more widely used...my vote goes for that. Though shrek_(franchise) would be fine too.

I guess shrek_(franchise) has my vote as series seems to more imply TV or only on screen stuff, whereas franchise is just toys, games, waffles, everything

So if someone mentions the Harry Potter series you immediately think the movies instead of the books? o.O; You are so weird.

I more think of it as just a fictional theme, like halloween, rather than any type of bound media, but I see your point. I still hold mine that series sounds more limiting to a few installments in a row, rather than encompassing all forms of media

True. Although, I'd argue that Sonic the Hedgehog has more toys, games (obviously), and other stuff than Shrek. Plus, "series" is much more commonly used than "franchise".

the waffles though

Note I wasn't dismissing your point- I like the usage of franchise over series myself, personally- what do you do when a franchise has multiple iterations that have separate series within it, for example?

Just that the way you made it come across really sounded weird. :P

So I think then everyone is in favor of shrek_(franchise)

I suppose so. Though if Sonic, Godzilla and Batman can be tagged as *_(series), then I don't see why Shrek couldn't.

Again, I don't really mind which one we use, but my main concern with this is that we've mostly used the *_(series) tags for the standard until now. I'm not too keen on the idea of having to check which disambiguation is used, whenever I tag copyrights. Keeping them all under *_(series) would be a lot simpler.

I'm thinking all those should be changed to *_(franchise) too. Otherwise, keep it to *_(series). thought I'd said that?
