Topic: An Inquiry.

Merely curious on the subject of account deletion. I recall another topic with such a request whereas the posts stated the site doesn't provide such service but I'm unsure if it was verified. Can it be done? Does an admin/site owner have the ability to scrap the entirety of one's account from the site (rather than freezing it to linger in obscurity yet still be able to view it)? And if feasible, provide such a service or even implement the option for an account holder to self-terminate the account at a later date?

Accounts can't be deleted, not even by admins and judging by posts I've seen on other threads it's going to stay that way.

Accounts can not be deleted and we have no reason to ever delete them due to the accountability of keeping them around

Why is that exactly?

"Accountability of keeping them around" I don't entirely understand what that means.

This is a website full of porn. Usernames can be tracked by google easily and if someone doesn't want this site on their record what are they to do? Changing it doesn't help because the site still lists your old usernames.

In the case of banned accounts, we wouldn't want some innocent user to be confused with the individual that got banned. For "inactive" accounts, there are many reasons why those users may have been absent, and they could return anytime. Some accounts may have negative records attached and those users may come back under a different name, if the original account is gone, there's no way to connect the two.

If someone got banned, and came back with a different account under a different name. How are you supposed to. "Connect." That anyway?

There's a warning on the registration page about that, if they didn't pay any attention it's their fault. Username history is only shown on the profile page, which is hidden from unregistered users therefore Google can't index it. There'll be no publicly viewable history of the username as far as I know except in past quotes in the forum and comments and deleting the account won't change that anyway.

If you google my last username here. [removed for privacy] Which is also my username nearly everywhere else. It gives you a link to e621. Which I would rather it not did but that's not the point.

The username can be tracked down regardless of "ban" or not. Index it in your blacklist or something so the account can't be made again but you don't need to keep the accounts active.

Currently we don't offer a method of deleting an account as we don't have any mechanisms in place to deal with either actually deleting an account (it is not as easy as deleting the user) nor dealing with a missing account (for example, if the user who created a forum post was deleted, it'll error right now because it's expecting a user when viewing a forum post).

The best we can do is change your username, remove any posts you uploaded (if you drew/commissioned them) and possibly hide comments/blips if you don't have very many.

Can't the hiding be done in batch? Or that is too much server load?

Also, why not use The Dog In Your Guitar as a placeholder?

Honestly, i don't know why we don't just do the latter if someone is permabanned or whatnot. Keep the account NAME locked from future use, but change all references to prevent google searching.

on the topic of google searching can it ever be possible to elect to keep our usernames private upon registration and go back to edit it so the sources are removed from google if the choice box is checked?

If you're searching the forums for a way to delete your account and have landed here, things have since changed. If you want to delete you account you can do so by going to your account settings. Here is the link for that.

It's not a true deletion--more of an abandonment. The account exists, it's just back to its user number and any bio information is removed. Comments, uploads, and activity history still exist.

There is powerful necromancy at work here.

It is not necromancy if the comment is useful/constructive and is actually relevant to the topic at hand.
In this case, terminating an account should one no longer desire to have it, and the subsequent comment that any digital footprint that they have already made will still remain here.

It's about as deleted as it can be. The user name and bio data is wiped, and the password scrambled so it can't be signed into anymore, but the account needs to still exist in the database so the site knows which account uploaded various posts, did various actions, etc. Truly deleting/destroying all traces of the account would likely be a lot harder on the system, and even if it was possible, it still wouldn't be a 100% wipe as anyone quoting a comment they made would still have the quote and user name reference in their comment.
