Topic: New forum games?

Posted under General

So it's a general rule that there should only be two forum games, but haven't we all gotten a bit tired of the current ones? I'd like to see a new game or two, but that would mean we'd all have to agree to lock one of the current game threads.

Let's use this thread to propose new forum games we'd like to see adopted, and to decide which of the current games to retire.

Personally I'd be willing to say goodbye to the "Ban the user above you" game. There's only so many things a person can be banned for, and I think we've seen pretty much all of them over the past 710 pages.

Believe it or not, the ban one was inactive for a full week until someone had to post in it and it's been non-stop ever since.

This. The "Keep a word, drop a word" was stopped too (it was a really long one, I guess it was like 100 letters)

I understand the need to limit the number of forum games, but the current ones have clearly got stale. Maybe it is time to retire them and switch to something new..

The problem with forum games is they're kinda taken as a substitute for popularity contests for people who want to make content but have nothing to contribute.
Do note that the two games we got going on are populated by a tiny handful of players.

So yeah, I'm fully in favour of locking the ones we have, because they're hella boring.
I'm all for new ones as long as they're *not* hella boring.

It's probably because we don't want to. In time, someone will get bored and come up with new games but they were shot down because of the existing two games. Now, that were going to end those two, those same users that have been trying to get a new game up can finally have an opportunity to do so. But the question still remains, will the new games be as addictive as Moon Moon's?

what i'm saying is that they are addictive like you said so why does this disscusion even exsist? they obviously serve there meaning so why lock and fix them if it ain't broken don't fix it they always say

Only reason we haven't locked them by now is we don't want to seem like we discourage fun. But the more I hear people talk about them, the more I think the fun would only end for a small handful of people.

no, we have Tangent, Killersweet, me, furballs, anon X who is prolly having login issuses along with hydrogizard we have others like Xch3l, Jade Angel, Fluttershy, Jatix, Leatherford579, and all these guys are prolly ALL having login issues thats why they all seem so inactive probably...

I for one like "Ban the user above you". Login issues kept me from getting on e6 for 4 or 5 days but I usually post on it every day.

There's only a small handful of people who use this forum regularly anyway.

I never log out, so I don't have issues (I just leave my account on when I leave. Perks of having a private laptop) I enjoy both of them. But that's my personal opinion in a minority :/

They're not even games anymore. There's like 20 new posts a day, and 95% of then are something like "I just stubbed my toe. BANNED".

There's no incentive for anyone but like 5 people to post, because any clever ban reason will just be buried by a dozen posts that aren't even trying.

If there is only a small handful of users doing the e621 games then there is no issue in removing the games altogether.

The problem is that we don't have any interesting forum games because the ones in use are taken up by posts like this.

If we aren't going to change the games, we should nuke them. They've long overstayed their welcome, and they're just cluttering the forum section.

why not? we'd have no restrictons on how many we can have at once and they would not clutter the forums like you say and most importantly you could just not visit that part of the site instead of having to decide weather or not to kill them or not

I've been a bit busy lately, chatting with my aunt and having dinner. And with the recent earthquake I was out of internet (both wi-fi and mobile) and electricity...

Indeed. Neither on my laptop (both Opera and Firefox. Comodo logged me out) and on my phone (Opera, Dolphin and Default) had any problems because I'm always logged in :)

I suggest adding a forum games section, but disallowing the posts from adding to your total post count. That's what most of the forums I've been to have done to handle the games. That way, people wouldn't abuse the forum games to have the most posts.

Updated by anonymous

Again, forum games are often popularity contests. People who put a focus on getting a big 'post count' generally just write bullshit with no content or effort.

Having a games section would divert a lot of attention to literally a ghetto of popularity contests and attention whores. I can't think of a single way this would end well. (not to mention the man hours needed to code a whole new section of the website)

Again, we could remove the incentive to spam the games for post count by not allowing the posts to count toward the total. It may take a bit of work to code in a new section, but it may help to make things more fun in the forum. If people spend more time playing games on the forum, they're going to spend more time on the forum in general, and it would encourage increased activity in the other topics. Personally, I don't see how it could end badly.

Post count? I play the games because I find them somewhat fun, not for some silly number. I think it's fun seeing what the original 'words' have changed into. They are fun ways for my to pass the time.

Exactly. I don't do it for the numbers, I do it for fun. That's why I'm fighting so hard to get more forum games approved. I've always enjoyed the games, sometimes to the point where I would cling on to dying forums that only had activity in the games section. I believe every forum should have a game section. (And maybe an RP section too, but that's for another day...)

You lost me at RP section. If you want to RP then go to Flist.

I'm seriously pushing hard for all forum games to be removed. Only a select few play them and it's now becoming old and stale. Forums are to be used to give information on issues with the site, not about who bans who or what are our sweet fetishes.

Not every forum is dedicated specifically for stating problems with a website. And based off of what Patchi just said, we might as well ban casual topics like the one about what kind of food we've been having and what video games we're excited about, since they aren't helping us fix glitches in the site.

I'll make some new ones if y'all want me to, but I'd suggest keeping one so we can contain the shit posting to one thread.

We shouldn't because that's what the Off Topic category is made for. We should come up with new games (if you still want forum games) and not keep the other ones due to it being completely stale and only updated by 10 users at max

Updated by anonymous

But wouldn't the same thing happen to the 'new' forum games eventually? I mean, if only a few people play these ones what makes you think a new game will keep people's attention besides those who are dedicated somewhat to the already up forum games?

When a new game goes stale it should be dumped and a new one take its place at the most. Otherwise, just let them die until a truly fun/enjoyable one comes along.

No one has said no new games now that the current ones are locked.
They only locked the existing ones because they were getting boring and stale, and not many people wanted to participate.

So, instead of complaints, maybe think of a good game that people will want to play?
