Topic: Need advice on what kind of artistic style to go for.

Posted under Art Talk

I've been trying to learn to draw furry, but there are a number of different methods and artistic styles that can be used to draw furry. For instance some artists rely solely on the line tool to draw an outline, while more advanced artists use pen and brush tools to draw the outline. Also different artists detail and shade differently, some use basic shading, while other more advanced artists add dynamic lighting and shadows. I've been searching for a style of furry art that requires little artistic talent that I can use as a base for learning more advanced artistic concepts. Could Anyone recommend a furry artist so that I can try and emulate their style. Someone who's work does not rely on fine detail or the ability to draw well, but is still considered erotic and is post worthy.

I also need to know what tools are best to use, I am getting better with pencil and paper, but also use SAI with a wacom tablet. I have lots of ambition to make something decent, by the end of summer my goal is to have a consistent artistic style where I can make multiple pieces of art.

I wouldn't fret too much over trying to develop your style by the end of the summer, though some form of consistency in rendering quality is definitely nice! The sorts of tools that will benefit you on your artistic journey are somewhat dependent on what sorts of things you wish to do, however. From the description of the type of artist you're looking for, it sounds like you plan on doing a good bit of inking, in which case you might want to take a look at how artists like Zaush and Wolfy Nail handle their line quality whilst also adding in coloring. Wolfy Nail actually has a little tutorial on cel-shading buried in their gallery somewhere, so I would strongly recommend checking that out.

As far as your own inking is concerned, a program with some form of stabilization is very handy, like SAI or Manga Studio 5. There's also something called Lazy Nezumi Pro, which is some sort of plugin meant to add stabilization to programs like Photoshop.

And, finally, on the subject of talent, it's kinda irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. It makes for a nice jumpstart, but unless you cultivate that talent into a skill through focused practice and lengthy study, you'll only go so far. I'd mainly recommend Zaush or Wolfy Nail due to the both of them producing a great deal of erotic artwork, as well as having a style that may prove a bit easier to dissect for your own education.

Draw abstract, make us figure out which emotions we are supposed to feel and what the fuck we are looking at.
It will eat at our soul.

dont try to emulate anyone's art style, copying anyone's style is never good. just focus on developing your basic art skills before you start to think about art style. starting to think about style without learning the basic stuff is like trying to build a tower without making a base for the tower at first. just keep drawing and eventually you will start to develop your own style without even trying.
