I listen to any genre really, I like at least one performer/group in each genre.
Had some "eras" though, when I predominantly listened to one genre.
- 14-16 Classic Hard Rock (Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Guns n' Roses)
- 16-19 Death Metal & Folk Metal (Arch Enemy, Oceano, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Heidevolk, Arkona)
- 19-21 Industrial (Rammstein, Frontline Assembly, NIN, Laibach, Turmion Kätilöt)
- 21-onwards Dirty Dubstep (Going Quantum, Ry Legit, Bassnectar etc.)

Why didn't the thread end here? That's the answer.
I'll listen to and enjoy damn near anything. My favorite music tends to be rock or metal with weird ass lyrics- Coheed and Cambria, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult.

well i listen to the Beetles mostly, but i'll listen to anything good, so no dubstep and no country.
Updated by anonymous
it depends. bit of any and every genre, except very little rap, and next to no country (due to the sound and the southern/country stereotype)

Ha, I was hoping that someone else would necro this this thread. First, since they did not, I will do the necro dance. do-dee-do.
Metal, first and foremost. Though anything that that has a lot of up beat energy is likely to be enjoyed by myself. Stuff that has rather depressing undertones, like country, or the blues, Will be avoided like the plague, as far as I am concerned. Even though I cannot understand German, Rammstien, is a damn good band. Can anyone recommend an equally good, non-english metal band? In their opinion, of course

I know, that was pathetic. I am too lazy, to link to an appropriate song on youtube, deal with it.
apply sarcasm now

This is probably my favorite non-English metal. Not particularly heavy, but the opposite of depressing undertones, for sure.

Du hast mich genehmigung. though I do like some semi-depressing music.
EDIT: XD to anyone who knew what I said without looking it up, -_- to you if you do (only had to search the last one myself)

I'll try to be interesting at the risk of sounding pretentious:
-Progressive rock that's at least a little subtle
-Folk tunes so charming that they get the cows to sing along
-2½ hour long electronic epics made with room-sized analogue synthesizers
-Creeping downtempo that makes me weep over this pitiful fetish
-Psychedelic pop that makes my brain turn into a liquid rainbow and ooze out of my ears
-The most intense 'hip-hop' one can find that makes me want to go on a rampage
-What I really wish I didn't have to call Krautrock
-Songs by eccentric females who lead a confusing yet inspiring existence...
Anything that sets a very powerful mood or mental image that happens to click with me gets a like.

I had an awkward moment when I noticed about 3/4ths of my major bands have been on the Nuclear Blast Records label at one time or another, and may still be on it today.
At least it makes it easy to find them if I forget their names.

Lol Metallica Is my favorite band :p

I listen to the heavier side of music, depending on what I am doing. If I need something to pump me up its metal all the way. If its just something to nod my head too then something a little lighter like Linkin Park or maybe some techno or house style music. My taste tends to shift rather often.

i only listen to melodic brutal deathcore.

I feel that this thread needs to know about Dave Remmler.
Lapfoxtrax.com has most of his work, most of which is "name your price" and too awesome to describe.
All of it is electronic but with all his pseudonyms having different sounds, most people can find something they like.
For a sample you should check out:

Sure! But I don't listen to it on a regular basis.
Just from time to time. At those times I usually go to my favorite harmonica players as well. :)

You should check out Turmion Kätilöt, a Finnish Industrial metal band that does some English lyrics but mostly just awesome music in general.

Hm, I usually turn to speedcore in that situation.
Perhaps just me, but I guess one turns to what works.

Where to start? It'd be easier to list the stuff I don't listen to because my taste in music, as in most things, is ... eclectic.
Classical, as in from the Classical Period
Romantic, as in from the Romantic Period
Baroque (self explanatory)
Renaissance (self explanatory)
Opera (in general)
Celtic
African tribal
Traditional South American (mostly Mexican)
Rock & Roll (and just about anything from the 60s)
American folk
Jazz (especially Dixieland)
Blues and Soul
Reggae
New Age
Just about any well-written love duet (yeah ... I get all misty over those)
Chipmunks & Chipettes (the real stuff -- not the badly done copies)
Country
Bluegrass
Pop from the late 70s and early to mid 80s
Traditional Christmas music (the season is rapidly approaching)
J-Pop (what's not to love about Kotoko?)
Rock opera (Jesus Christ Superstar for the win!)
Did I leave something out? Probably.
While I generally don't seek out some of the more modern pop music, get a few drinks in me and I'll groove to just about anything. By the way, it's a bit of an irony, based upon my musical likes and dislikes, that one of my favorite bands is Tenacious D.
And, yes, AzureDreams. I love bagpipes, except when they're played badly, and then it can be some of the most horrid music ever.

I listen to rock and metal mostly, especially progressive rock and the classics. (pink floyd ftw)Alternative is pretty good too. Also some classic country, but not very often.

I always appreciate the necroing of music threads. AHOI!
I for my part can listen to anything from drum'n'bass to death metal.
I tried to pinpoit it a little once, and noticed something interesting:
I basically listen to anything that doesn't run on popular TV. That shit gives me headaches, and i don't just say that, I really try being blind to it, but it seems that pop music is obliged to have an annoying ring to it, be it melodically or lyrically.
Aaanyway, even thoguth I can listen to (almost) everythingmy all-time favourites would be:
1. Ambient (electroinc and orchestral)
2. Darkstep (brutal, almost techno-ish drum'n'bass)
3. Progressive metal, preferrably in the more extreme form
but as said, I have so many different genres on my phone, and i love them all.
