Aurali's point still stands, though. If e621 was going to be 'sploded and taken down for having Cub art, then it would be taken down regardless of whether or not it required a signup process.

Exactly, and thus we leave ourselves much more out in the open to those attacks by not doing the smart thing and just making people sign up to see porn. I mean, its not really the end of the world, it would be a simple rule that would really help in the end.

It's less of a sign-up, and more of a "Make sure you know the rules!" moment. It doesn't even have to be a proper signup, maybe something with cookies instead. The intent is simply to make sure that the general user passes through the "check this for adult stuff, and set your filters!" page before seeing adult art.
