Anyone into Punk rock?
I fucking love it myself
Bad religion, agent orange, minor threat, the sex pistols, the clash, 999, the jam, exploited, Descendents are some of my favorite.

"See me driving down the street
I'm bored with looking good
I got both hands off the wheel
The cops are coming
I'm listening to the music with no fear
You can hear it too if you're sincere

Cause I'm a punkrocker, yes I am
Well I'm a punkrocker, yes I am"

But yes, I like Punk Rock.

The Ramones
The Bouncing Souls
Alkaline Trio
Autopilot Off
Dropkick Murphys
Fall Out Boy
Green Day
MxPx
The Offspring
Sugarcult
Rise Against
Pennywise

"Rock Against Bush" Volumes 1 & 2 and the videogame Burnout 3: Takedown have a lot of good Punk songs on them (as well as Alternative Rock).

Well, when I categorize my MP3's, I go by what Wikipedia says.

-The Bouncing Souls are a punk rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, formed in 1987.

-Alkaline Trio is an American punk rock band that formed in McHenry, Illinois, in 1996.

-Autopilot Off *was* a punk rock band from Orange County, New York.

-Dropkick Murphys [sic] are an Irish American Celtic punk/hardcore punk band formed in Quincy, Massachusetts.

-Fall Out Boy is a currently inactive American rock band from Wilmette, Illinois, formed in 2001. (Pop-Punk)

-Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1987.

-MxPx are a punk rock band from Bremerton, Washington with connections to the Christian punk scene.

-Sugarcult (pronounced /ˈʃʊɡərkʌlt/) is an American rock band from Santa Barbara, California formed in 1998. (Alternative Rock)

-Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1999.

-Pennywise is an American punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, California, formed in 1988.

No worries. People come to different generalizations for their music.

What did I just say?

"Well, when I categorize my MP3's, I go by what Wikipedia says."

Wikipedia says they are Pop-Punk, then that is what they are!

Pop Punk ≠ Punk Rock, which is what the thread is about.

Aren't they the same thing tho? Pop Punk is just (pop)ular Punk Rock, right?

Absolutely not. Pop Punk is a fusion of two different musical styles (which is exactly what it's name implies).

You like Wikipedia. Look up Punk Rock and then go look up Pop Punk.

Well, I'm sorry. You should have put "joke" at the end.
I take things seriously, I never joke (at least not on the Internet anyways). Because if you joke on the Internet, you could get in big trouble...

Can I add my old favorite of Anti-Nowhere League? Or is that too "traditional punk" for people to use the modern definition of "punk"?

EDIT: Forgot the Sex Pistols. Roots go deep.

The Fugs? Seriously? Maybe I haven't heard enough of them, but they never came across as punk rock.

Well, I'm sorry then. I'm just some 19 year old redneck, I don't know nuthin' about all these different genres and all this other music stuff.
All I know is, I just copy it from Wikipedia, put it in iTunes, and don't ask no questions.

I'm a 26 year old Cajun, and I still know more than you. Probably the best thing to do, is not trust Wikipedia. Listen to the music, learn the styles. Once you do that, you can start really telling them apart.

Punk music was sorta the original outlet for Trolls. They'd go to the extreme counter-culture to try and piss people off. Well, not JUST to piss people off, but they didn't fit society, and they knew it, so they'd make music for it. Pop Punk, like Green Day, is DESIGNED music, stuff that's more like a jingle for toilet paper than to promote rebellion among youths.

Well proto punk, you know what I mean, The Stooges, Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, Mc5. Also Anti-nowhere League an't really that old nor are they tradtional, that would be stuff like the clash and 999

ANL is 1980, when the style of Punk really moved out of the UK. They're the tail end of First Generation punk.

The Clash, while they definitely have punk in them... they just felt more of like the very first Pop Punk to me.
