there ha been extensive discussion about these tags here: http://www.e621.net/forum/show/8598
I belive the generalized consensus of the thread (as I am not reareading it right now) was:
The creation of a new tag to describe completely unrealistic amounts of obesity (called uberfat for purposes of the below text, however, uberchub, hyperfat or a variant could also suffice).
Chubby implies fat, refers to a slightly pudgey character.
Obese implies fat, refers to a obese character who's realistically sized.
Uberfat implies fat
'Fat' is used as a 'blanket' tag for easy blacklisting.
~~~
BTW, fat and chubby are NOT 'practically the same thing'.
Let's keep this one away for this reason;
I love chubby 'realistic' sized people.
I do not, however, love giant inflated balloon people / people with so much fat on them you wonder how their leg bones dont shatter under the sheer strain of carrying them. These people are not 'chubby'.
That's my definition between them, and I think that there ought to REMAIN a definition a between them.
I'm not for aliasing this, but I do think it should be an implication.
Just like the example for aliasing, Chubby and fat are not the same thing, but one does imply the other.
