Topic: Any pointers or tips for a new artist?

Posted under Art Talk

I have been drawing for years and I'm learning to become a tattoo artist. I decided to try my hand at drawing furries and hopefully one day; yiff. Anyone want to help me out?

This makes me sad.
I remember when VCL and yerf were the ONLY places to go... when FurNation was still thriving...

I still visit VCL sometimes, when I am looking for a hard-to-find picture from an artist. Sad to say, that place is mostly a ghost-town now though...

Study from life. Get a good book on human anatomy, Gray's Anatomy works very well, and there are some other good books out there on figure drawing. Go to a public place like a park and sit down and try to draw people/animals around you. Pick out images from sports and fashion magazines and try to draw the people depicted in them. I'm not going to lie, studying and drawing from pornography helps, too (just make sure it's live-action pornography).

More important than anything is just to keep drawing.

Probably because it's so hard to navigate it compared to modern sites. Still, it's good for nostalgia and there's several galleries there belonging to people who have otherwise dropped off the map.

Ah thank you very much guys! This helps a lot. I went out and bought 3 anatomy books. I couldn't find Gray's anatomy believe it or not. A lot of the furries I have already drawn have a lot of tattoos so I guess that's how you will know its my work. Oh and I used to go on VCL a lot too.

I finished my first real drawing! It's my fursona. I'm kind of "meh" about it but I want you guys to tell me what you think! I will upload it in the near future.

Beginner artists' work isn't that well received here. I would suggest uploading it to an image hosting site and just posting a link in this thread. But I don't really know of any sites that allow nudity and sexual content to be hosted*.

Accidentally tried with Image Shack. It didn't end well.
