Topic: Tag *Un*-Alias: remove gore -> guro

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

  • gore = blood, guts, but not necessarily for fapping to
  • guro = the normal shorthand for ero-guro, gore as above but in an erotic sense

The two are similar but not the same. Also why use a Japanese word with an obscure meaning in the first place? It's not what many people will be searching for.

I disagree. Why fuck with something that isn't broken.

Sorry, but this tag alias is genuinely broken. "guro" is a fairly meaningless alias, and meaningless aliases cause people editing tags to get frustrated and shit up comment threads with their whining.

(And that is all. I'll stop now for that very reason.)

Honestly, I would unalias this, and re alias the other dirction.. guro -> gore... because you can't have guro without gore.

and guro--as a word--just doesn't belong here.

Updated by anonymous

It doesn't matter, it's common parlance now. Also, I just noticed this was a very cleverly hidden 'I don't like this, remove it' thread.

But, this is a fair argument. *I* don't like it either. we frown on japanese-flavored tags already (excluding places where it's unavoidable) why should guro be an exception?

also, I'm a bit vague as to what the difference between not-erotic-gore and erotic-gore is supposed to be. and I figure that THAT depends on the viewer.... and the two tags about mean the same thing anyway.

I'd change to an implication, (guro has gore) but I want more opinions.

I say leave it. As one of the (apparantly few) people who browse it, there's nothing wrong with the implication. Guro is now something called 'common parlance' for the type of art. It's possible to find non-guro pictures as guro, so I see no reason to change it, but I like Aurali's opinion.

Personally I think we should alias guro to gore. I don't see why we need to differentiate between "non-erotic" and "erotic" gore. Gore is gore.

I vote for a "guro -> gore" alias on the subjectivity and westernization platforms.

I'm happy with leaving erotica vs. non-erotica outside the argument since that's pretty subjective. Adding {guro -implies-> gore} and removing the alias would be fine for me.

Replace guro by gore.

What weeaboos call "guro" is actually "snuff".

I support this, most logical way to handle it.

I say gore, were not in some weird ass country that most people here say guro. Im sure asian countries will rely on this but were not reading japanese now are we? I dont know if this is even japanese but it is certainly asian. Plus, this is one of the things that will end up having us switching things like gay with yuri or what ever word that relates it that we DONT KNOW WHAT IS WHAT!
