Topic: Tag alias: covering_self and covering

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Looked at the two tags. Did a search for covering -solo -covering_self. Got a single page of posts, of which maybe FOUR of them actually classify as not covering self.

Did similar check of covering-self -solo and two images that I saw weren't self-covering (and were retagged) were being covered by another person.

By default, any picture of covering solo counts as covering_self; any case of covering_self also counts as covering.

Thus, I propose that covering_self alias (not imply) to covering for ease of use and similarity.

Would also add the tags covered, covering_up, hair_covering_breasts, barely_covered_breasts, covered_eyes, and the myriad of other minor covered-flavour tags that exist that deal with the actual act of covering something, rather than a item that is a cover.

While I do support tagging what you can see, having so amny small tags that are too specific ruins the purpose, while compiling them under an aggregate tag that covers (heh) that purpose considering that said tags are too specific (long_hair, covered, breasts for example on hair_covering_breasts) ruins the purpose of tagging.

If they all got aliased, then they should be aliased to "covered".

I say we imply covering_self -> covering, because you're not always covering yourself, and we need a tag to note that. Anyone looking for a character covering another character can search covering -covering_self.

And yeah, all other tags that have something to do with covering should be aliased to covering, unless anyone has any reasons why one or more of these tags should stay.

Also, 123easy, you should learn the different methods of linking. >_<

Would love to, but everything I've learned has been as I go, since the wiki isn't that helpful with learning a lot of things like that, just on a few points. >_>;; I'd love to learn how to link properly on the forums et al; I enjoy trying to help out as best I can.

Also, for the covering_self tag; Why wouldn't the tags covering and solo be a viable replacement? I mean, doing that as a search now shows that they're all covering themselves anyways. There's a separate tag for things being in the way- http://www.e621.net/post/index?tags=convenient_censoring so covering solo would (heh) cover covering_self neatly without the need for a secondary tag.

Eh... Point made. I still feel that the covered tag (should be covered, past tense, not covering, present tense, no?) should just be aliased to by it, rather than imply, but it'd probably be best just to imply as you suggested.

Turns out that the covering_self -> covering implication already exists. Also, covered should be aliased to covering. We tag by what they're doing, not what they have been doing.

1) Thanks for the dtext link. i didn't know that's what that link was- perhaps change the text "Dtext Syntax Reference" to be a bit easier to understand from an unfamiliar perspective? I didn't know what Dtext was until that link, and it almost felt like something I shouldn't have been seeing (like seeing admin-only links when I shouldn't have been sorta deal). Maybe replace the "Dtext" with "Link"?

2)Not surprised that the implication already exists for covering_self to covering. Still feel it should be aliased, which is why I brought it up in the first place. :P but i understand why not.

3)Ah, that's a useful tidbit as to tagging rules. Could the tagging wiki post get updated with that information, as well as any other similar info you feel might be useful?

1) Yeah, maybe I can get Aurali to fix that. And we've blocked off all the things you shouldn't be seeing, so don't be apprehensive about exploring.

2) K

3) I'll try and think of some stuff to put in there.
