Topic: Tag Alias: movie -> movie_poster

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Aliasing movie -> movie_poster.

Reason: The majority of images with the movie tag is done in a form of a movie poster. Anything else, due to "tag what you see", has better tags (e.g. cinema, animation, movie_clip, TV).

Just because the majority of the posts tagged movie are for movie posters doesn't mean that it should be aliased to posters. If anything, retag them to movie_poster because they've been tagged incorrectly.

agreed :)

On that note: Should I remove movie from all the images with movie characters? It's not like we tag tv_show on MLP characters either.

But my question really is, exactly what should be tagged movie, which wouldn't be better off as tagged something else?

Actually, yeah. This shouldn't be, IMO

well. my first reaction was movies, but we have flash and animation and other things for that.

Actually filming a movie would probably be movie_set, or filming

I don't think movie really belongs on anything, to be honest.

Agreed; Even for bits of movies we have up here we have movie_clip. And full movies... don't really belong here.

well there could be... watching.. a movie.... ... but that'd probably be movie_theater...

yeah, I don't see anyuse for movie as a tag in general.

So if we have no use for movie as a tag, what should it get aliased to? invalid_tag, animated, or something else?

Updated by anonymous

probably, I didn't go looking to see if there was an appropriate tag ^^;

Updated by anonymous

Neither did I, it was mentioned earlier in the thread. xD i'd say it should be an invalid tag, because not all movies are animated. There doesn't seem to be any posts under the movie tag atm anyways.

I've been so sick the last few days... I"m not thinking very clearly ^^;

I wouldn't invalidate it as a tag, just keep and eye on it and make sure any posts that get tagged with it filter off in the right direction.

There's far too many tags that are in need of looking into, I think. :P besides, movies don't belong here. Movie clips, movie poster pictures, pictures that involve the cinema, they do (one of my favorites is the two fucking publically in the front row); But full movies themselves? Go torrent them if you want to see them. Thus why I said it should be an invalid tag.

Movie can apply to a lot of things, which have been mentioned earlier in the thread. I highly doubt anyone would actually post a full-length feature film to e621.
123easy, it seems like you're advocating the alias movie -> invalid_tag cause you're worried people will use e621 to upload full movies :V
So yeah this will be one of those tags that we will have to look over once in a while. I was gonna suggest movie -> animated but snowwolf already got me on that one.

that, and there's no one thing that movie can properly alias to, because it does broach a wide variety of topics even if it isn't applicable as a proper tag to any of them in and of itself.

Maybe we could make up a wiki for how to use the movie tag, as well as a disambiguation section.

Updated by anonymous

Well, basically, don't use it. think up a better tag to describe what you're seeing.

Maybe we need a new tag for disambiguation purposes? (aka all tags which is unclear implies the disambiguation tag, and the disambiguation tag wiki notes which tags needs disambiguation, and to refer to the unclear tag wiki for disambiguation choices)

Well we do, actually. It's the "ambiguous:" prefix. Except I don't think it's working, or it wasn't the last time I checked it. http://e621.net/help/tags
