Which one: grim_reaper or death_(personification)?

Personification appears to more commonly used, however, grim reaper is pretty standard "naming" for this concept. But personification's pretty understandable too.

I think I'm slightly inclined towards grim reaper myself, but didn't want to act alone.

the grim reaper is a pretty specific type of anthropomorphized death. There's a lot of others.

so using grim reaper is like applying 'cheetah' to every feline. But whate/ like anyone on this site would realize the difference.

Yeah, the Grim Reaper is just one of many faces that death can use, and it varies dramatically from culture to culture (many Native Americans tend to favor the owl, for instance). I can see wanting to search for the Grim Reaper as a character though, so I don't think that the tag should be removed in favor of the other.

Mmmkay.

Then would someone please go through the personification tag linked above and tag the "grim reapers" as grim reapers?

and I suppose grim reaper will just imply death personification....

of course, I wonder how many of those 'deaths' are jsut "furry with scythes, but never mind :p

I think we need to decide what qualifies as a Grim Reaper as most of these do indeed appear to simply be furry's with scythes. I fixed the obvious one, but the rest will need some clarification.

I agree that grim_reaper should remain, and imply death_(personification).

added, anyway.

as for which qualify....

... hell, maybe we should jsut let 'em all sit. the evoked the imagry for someone..

I've fixed the vast majority of them already. Most of them were marked as death_(pesonification) because they had a scythe, that was it. Those got the tag removed. Anything that had to actually do with death and reapers- Jack, the hourglass of time and skulls, skeletons in robes with the scythe, etc- got tagged grim_reaper. There was one iffyish one, but a double check of the image (named amon) shows no indication of it being a personification of death.

well, some of them could have been an interpretation of what someone things it might be.. like death of rats, for example.

a personification is just.. the way a culture belives death comes. The hindu lord of death rides a black buffalo and carries a lasso to pull souls to the underworld :P

Death of rats isn't an interpretation- Death in the Discworld series had a few types of death personifications spawn off of him and become their own selves- Specifically in that case, Squeak, the Death of Rats.

As for the rest, they were just random furs or demons with scythes. There was no supporting evidence that they were death in any form, just that they had a scythe. Several that were iffy had source links that could be traced back to the initial picture and confirm that they had nothing to do wth personifying Death.

Exactly. Just because they have a scythe doesn't mean that they are a personification of death. It was a confirmation that they were not, by the artist. The only reason they were iffy is because it wasn't obvious directly in the picture what was being shown- not a cloaked skeleton with a scythe, or a scythe wielding demon with a hourglass and a pile of skulls beneath.
