Topic: "clop", "clopping" - when to tag with in-fandom terminology and when not?

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Not everypony out there seem to like the term "clopping" or "clop" as it's sometimes used in the MLP:FIM fandom:

clop /klɒp/
n. (onomatopoeia) The sound of a horse's shod hoof striking the ground.
v. To make this sound (also clopping)
v. (MLP:FIM fandom, of perky marshmallow ponies) To masturbate clumsily and hoofily

at least, not for tagging. I'm a bit yes-but-no there myself, but would apply it to pics that directly reference this particular fannish silliness because it helps document the phenomenon. Direct reference means text, basically, or something that only works if you already know the in-speak.

Any particular guidelines for attempting this sort of thing? I don't want to fuss around too much with aliases and implications, but it might be useful to gather thoughts and figure out a pattern for what to do in these circumstances. Your thoughts?

Trim your hooves first.

In all seriousness though, I don't see this as being necessary. Unlike the wing_boner tag (and its specific wing setup), this could be aliased to masturbation without impeding search results.

I'm all for masturbation... I mean, aliasing this to it. <_<

And damage my precious pony-pedi?! And as for the aliaswank, next thing you'll be telling me plot could be aliased to butt! ;)

Well, it could, but only if it were something like "plot (mlp)" in the first place. I think I meant more to ask whether there are any established suffixing guidelines for this sort of thing or if we should just pull something in brackets out of our... hindquarters... and see if it catches on.

Could be, could be.

Isn't the (mlp) for noting characters in the show? Last I checked, plot wasn't the name of a character.

I might alias it to fap instead of masturbate honestly, as the fulfill the same roll-- a "sound effect" for masturbation. --that said, I'd prefer to keep it as a tag.

that said, I notice half the instaces of clop/clopping arerefering to hooves 'clapping' together :P

How about using normal tags and not fandom words as tags? Crazy, I know :(

Okaaaaay,

How do you tag and image with the words "clop clop clop" printed on it?

this isn't really an important issue as there are less then ten clop/clopping posts.. the goal was, though, to discuss rules of thumb :)

I tag it with english_text text and perhaps we should include sound_effect?

Ah ha! But what if they use копыт instead‽ It's the same sound effect, but now it's Russian! English_text would hardly be fitting then, now would it? Ha!

And sound_effect‽ I hear nothing when I click on these images! This is a complete and utter misuse of the tag! >:(

In the first case, I'd use russian_text then. in the second: It's a visual representation of a sound effect. Like the "WHAAAAM!" "BOOOONK!" "ZOWIEEEE!" "BAAAARF!" of the Batman camp era, or River City Ransom.

sound effect is a pretty lame tag...
and it's present in almost.. every... comic tag type. c_c; "oooooh" "gwuishgwuish" "shoooon" "spluuuurrt" "insert!"

I find myself agreeing with swamprootwolf. I think instead of sound_effect, the tag should be onomatopoeia. Difficult to spell, perhaps, but accurate.

And alias SFX to it so that (sorta)lazy taggers can just type SFX to get it tagged. >_>
