Topic: Help with Tag Filtering

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Sorry to possibly bring up what might be a topic that's beaten to death. However, I can't for the life of me get it to do what I want. I've looked over the forums, and I'm still lost.

As an example, I have "Diaper", in my list. No quotations of course, in a single line. However, it still brings up pictures with that particular tag. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

So, first, be sure that it's in your tag blacklist box, as opposed to somewhere else.

Then, make sure your tags are in there formatted like so (we'll work with a snippet of my own blacklist as an example):

digimon
olimar
penectomy
dragon
gore
guro
babs_bunny
sonic_(series)
female solo
marci slave zoo

One per line, no commas or punctuation of any sort. Underscore replaces the space in multiword tags (like in babs_bunny above). Place multiple tags on one line if you want to exclude pictures with that tag <em>combination</em> (see "female solo" above). This is especially useful for blacklisting individual images that you hate while not excluding other images with the same tags that you may like, because it will only exclude images with <em>all</em> tags on that line, leaving ones that are missing one or more tags visible. For example, I used the "marci slave zoo" combo to permanently hide a picture that I kept coming across and really hated.

I do all my tags all lowercase when blacklisting. They seem to be case-sensitive.

There we go. Changing it to lowercase worked. That's my second Major in English being a jerk. Thanks for the quick reply!

Also, (while we're doling out info on how to avoid stuff) to search while temporarily excluding some tags, you can enter the tags that you do not want preceded by a "-". For example, if I want lesbians, but no horses, I can do "lesbian -equine". If I want cheetahs, but no cubs or taurs, I can do "cheetah -cub -taur"

Glad it helped! I edited the first post so that people searching the thread later would just have all the info in one place.

Tips for advanced filtering:

If you place more than one tag on a single line, it will filter out images containing all the tags on that line. You can also use the tag operators in your blacklist, such as "-". From my blacklist:

dinosaur
-female
gatomon -renamon -krystal
patachu -renamon -krystal

So this filters out the following images:
All images tagged with "dinosaur".
All images not tagged with "female".
All images tagged with gatomon and not renamon and not krystal. So images tagged with gatomon and renamon get through, and images tagged with gatomon and krystal get through, but all other images tagged with gatomon are filtered out.
All images tagged with patachu and not renamon and not krystal, just like the line before it but for patachu instead of gatomon.

That's good to know. I hadn't thought of trying that, and the only reason I had unblacklisted Pokemon was because of Lucario. Back on the list with ye, ye unwashed 497!

I'm sick of people asking about this. Congrats it's a sticky now.

Ok, a little help for people. Copy and paste each section into your blacklist that suites you.

Since this is the actual thread for tagging info, I figure I should move the conversation into here.

Last time, on "how to tag"...

So I guess if I wanted to exclude all scalies and avians, I could have a line that reads "~scalie avian", but I can get the same effect with two lines, "scalie" on one and "avian" on the other.

Aurali said:
No, that would only do ones with both.

I'm pretty sure the filter "~scalie avian" would only do ones with both if I left the tagging at their default operator, which is "and". Placing a tilde "~" at the front of a tag seems to turn the entire expression into an "or".

But I don't like being uncertain about things, so I tried it out. (I'd never tried it before because I'm perfectly happy with putting tags on separate lines, so I was simply <i>supposing</i> what would happen if I were to "or" a bunch of tags onto a single blacklist line.)

And the answer is...

...actually, it seems the tilde operator for "or"-ing tags together doesn't work on the blacklist. I tested it using the tags "krystal" and "acid_trip", because post #84000 happens to be fairly distinct and contains both tags, and was one the first page of images when I tested this.

I tried adding "~krystal acid_trip" to my blacklist, and nothing happened. No new filtering occurred.
Ditto "krystal ~acid_trip".
And "~krystal ~acid_trip".

I could filter out that image with the string "krystal acid_trip", since that image had both tags in it, and I could put the tags on their own lines to filter all krystal and all acid_trip images, but trying to "or" the together into a single line of my blacklist with the tag operator didn't seem to work.

So in summary, going back to my other example:
<ul><li>"scalie avian" would filter out all images with <i>both</i> "scalie" and "avian" tags in them.</li><li>"~scalie avian", "~scalie ~avian", and "scalie ~avian" will do nothing.</li><li>"scalie" on one line and "avian" on another line will filter images containing <i>either</i> the "scalie" tag or the "avian" tag.</li></ul>Don't use the "~" tag operator in your blacklist.

No bondage? Really? I thought everyone liked bondage...
Fairly good list, though. I would add "rape" to it and it just about covers everything.

We shouldn't need this thread. The blacklist wiki should be the place to go for learning how to use the blacklist.

It will be, but for now this is the best source of info.

Blacklist wiki has been updated, so this doesn't need to be a sticky anymore. All forum threads about users asking about how to use the blacklist should be redirected to the blacklist wiki.

Wanting to add something to this.

I experienced the problem, that there where pictures shown that shouldn't be shown 'cause their tags are on my blacklist.

Now I found out why: a greasemonkey-script messed up with the blacklist-possibility. I removed the script (which was better booru, just added e621 to the include-list) and now my blacklist is fully working.
So if you have problems with tags still being shown you might take a look at your scripts.
