So I was recently talking to a fr- Wait, no, you don't care why the question came up.
The word "Carbine," (essentially, a 'short'-barreled rifle) for all intents and purposes, has two or more methods of pronunciation.
So do the words "Sabot" (sharp metal thing shot from guns) and "Flechette" (Much the same concept as the sabot).
So my question to you, THE READER, is this : How do you pronounce the stated words?
Described, phonetically: I've heard "carbine" pronounced both as "car-byn[/i]" or "car-bine[/i]," and as "car- bean[/i]" (not to mention some very strange method with the stress being on the first sylliable, which I promptly discarded). For "sabot," the things I hear are :
- "sah-bot"
- "say-bot"
- "say-bow"
- "sah-bow"The word "flechette" has been pronounced as :
- "flu-shet"
- "flah-shet"
- "flay-shet"
(not to mention the second syllable has been done as "-shet," or as "-chet," which I THINK is actually incorrect.)
