Topic: Tag Alias: tigeress -> tigress

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

How many posts had tigeress? If it was only a small handful (less than like 30) it's best off just having the tags fixed.

A search brought up none for me. I'd say just correct it as it's seen.

Only 2, but is there any legitimate use for tigeress? To me it seems pretty cut & dry in terms of what was intended.

No, but that's not the same thing as saying it needs an alias. Misspelled tags happen, but there's no reason to bother with an alias unless it's a misspelling that happens really frequently.

a better idea:

tigress -> tiger

we don't have a "vixen" tag for a reason

Better idea: search already existing aliases before proposing one.

So aliases are only needed after a mistag has gone unaddressed and there's already a mess to clean up? That's just more work for the whole community isn't it? To me, a case like this where a tag is a clear misspelling with no legitimate use, it seems like a no brainer to setup an alias and NOT expect someone to revisit and correct the obvious ones more than one time.

Aliases to fix misspellings are only necessary for common misspellings. We don't want the alias list cluttered up with a hundred thousand tiny fixes that only had one or two posts each. It's just easier to manually change them when someone misspells them.

Because it's not a frequent occurrence, so we just delete it when we see it. But something like german_shepard -> german_shepherd makes sense because it's a common and easy mistake to make. This tigeress thing, however, almost never happens, so why should we bother with an alias?
