Topic: Make it so we can respond to mail from moderators

Posted under General

I have looked everywhere, and we have not been given the ability to respond to mail from moderators. My concern is that the moderators are not always good at their job and may be abusing their powers. They do not seem to be able to keep the peace on a community based website, which is actually important, in my humble opinion, imputing their own rules and preference instead of making neutral rules that everyone can agree upon. My reason for needing to respond to mail is to reason with people, mainly because even if a comment is two years old, if it starts tension, it should be looked at, no matter how old it is.

Stuff like this is what doesn't keep the peace. Moderators impart their own rules because they're moderators. That's what they're there to do. Plus, it's an image hosting website, don't get bent out of shape over stupid stuff that a moderator does.

As far as i can tell you can respond to mail from moderators all you want. Unless you're banned, in which case you can't send mail anyway.

if a comment is two years old, if it starts tension, it should be looked at, no matter how old it is.

So your method to deal with drama is to dig up every instance of it throughout the entire history of the site long after it's been dealt with and the everyone originally involved have forgotten about it, then dredge it up so people can bitch all over again?

There's always going to be tension. Get over it and move the hell on.

you can respond to moderators, I've had several conversations with mods using the mail system.

Or, or, we can just adopt a zero bullshit policy.

And if moderators get to be whiny, impose their own rules and such, then we are allowed to whine about them and try to make things change. Otherwise, they are in no position to force their own rules upon others, and should only be imposing non-biased rules upon people.

The comment you are referring to was 1) over two years old 2) not offensive 3) a joke in the first place.

Taking action against it would be pointless because the poster of that comment hasn't done anything on the site in over a year. They have a saying for this sort of thing where I come from: "doing this is like closing the barn door after the horse has bolted."

Furthermore, in the future, please try to keep your minor disputes with the moderation team in a private message and not in the forums.

you can respond to mods up to twice an hour after you are banned. it's in the code. also pm me, what you are referring to. We do second opinions. Also, anything over a few weeks old is considered too old to act upon, (certain circumstances may change this), but normally, the older it is, the less likely we will do something about it, so it really helps us if you catch them before they do something.

Though Please contact me in a pm (which you can do.) and discuss this with me in private.

Whiny? You think I'm WHINY for not punishing someone for a two year old comment that you reported? I didn't even get onto you for it. I just pointed out that it's silly. What's your problem? That we're too easy on people? The guy doesn't even come here anymore. And if you're pissed that I didn't just delete his comment, we don't delete comments here unless they're illegal or spam, since that's kind of an assholish way to run a website. And if you think we do a bad job of keeping the peace here then you're just flat out wrong.

Well, I wasn't even here 2 days before reading about an admin getting kicked out for abusing their power and then an admin changed my post in a forum to make me have said something I didn't say (for the worse) but guess what.

The only reason why I'm still apart of this site is because I love how lawless the admins are, they aren't stuck up bitches like other sites. I LOVE how this site is run, and they seem pretty fair also!

By the way, you CAN respond back and talk to any admin or mod or whatever!

Ive yet to have any complaints over a mods actions, lack of, or their comments... It seems perhaps some of the blunt comments might be a bit harsh but this is a place of diversity, all kinds of humor and personalities can be found here so honestly you cant be expecting a place where everyone is perfect. Perhaps your taking things a little too serious and letting things bother you that might be best shrugged off.

And on a side note, consider the amount of stupid crap they have to deal with on the day to day, I used to run several chat rooms myself and I know first hand how overwhelming the drama and trolling can be when you have to keep things orderly on the day to day. So with this being more than a chatting website and pictures being posted and needing approval, comments needing to be sifted through and moderated, personal messages and things being reported and dealing with bans and updates... I kinda feel the mod crew deserve some respect for committing themselves to keeping this place as pleasant as it is, seems like they do a pretty good job to me ^_^

First I've heard of that.

It was either that or just flat out delete them. Whoever did it was just having fun. Fun is good.

Someone needs to provide a screenshot of that admin getting kicked out, else it's hearsay.

ippiki ookami, like I said, I thought it was funny now, obviously at first I was mad but then that moment is what made me realize just how much I love this site. I like having fun and it was pretty funny!

And then Skeeter had to close the thread :(

Okay, I read that wrong, someone said that an admin gave them the reason titled CUNT SHIT FUCK FUCK SHIT or something very similar to that and another admin said that they are no longer working here as an admin, they didn't get kicked out BECAUSE of that but just forget it, I read it wrong....................

Updated by anonymous

BOTTOM LINE: I disagree with this guy and think that the people who run this site are doing fine!

This refers to the old administration. We are the new administration. There was never any other administration.

Except Poochy.

Yea, but look at it this way, even the police force has one or two people who are corrupt here and there (eventually) but it doesn't mean EVERY officer is like that. But the poster of this thread is insinuating that YOU as in the current admin needs to change, I'm sure he is referring to Wolf and the other admins in this forum and I don't agree with any of that crap.

Who the fuck is going to punish someone or give someone a "stern talking to" about something they had posted 2 years ago? I'd be like bitch, if nobody reported me in 2 damn years, I'm obviously not disrupting this site. Hell no, I still think he's trolling us or is insane.

Lol im no admin, though im flattered to be mentioned as one of the site superpowers. ^_^

Guys I think I figured it out, Bob Cat only ever does something once every 6 months.. so for him.. 2 years is no time flat on this site.

Updated by anonymous

So, I'm insatiably curious now. What comment is being freaked out over?

To the OP: I have been on here for over a year. I have seen the site do nothing but improve. I have seen the moderation team do nothing but improve. Do you know what Aurali did, to improve fairness? She introduced a "neutral" rating, so the mods could tell you to watch your actions without producing a negative score on your account. You should be aware of this, you've been here longer than me.

I've disagreed with moderators' decisions before. But the surefire way to make the situation worse is to call them whiny, arrogant, power-tripping, etc. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's wrong. They are also super good about listening to the other side of the discussion, so long as it is done in a reasonable, non-public, calm manner.

This is a self-fulfilling prophecy. "The mods are whiny. See how they whine when I call them whiny? The mods are ban-happy! See how they block me when I call them names and start drama in the forums?!"

Look at how fair they're being, not locking this drama thread, not stamping a negative mark on your record for dragging what should have been a round of pm's or a quick convo in the IRC out into the forum where we all have to smell your shit.
