Topic: Gilda the Gryphon from My Little Pony

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Most MLP stuff isn't tagged "feral". Should it be? Or is there some consensus that they aren't 'really' ferals?

That's not the part that confuses me most though. Gilda the Gryphon, even when on model for the show, looks like the classic feral gryphon. She's not even too terribly cute-ified. See the following.

Should these all be tagged feral? As of the time of this posting, none of them are. Meanwhile, the two following are tagged feral.

I'd say not. Isn't feral for anything non-anthro?

Gilda isn't anthro.

Why not? Because she's not a pony?

No, because she doesn't possess enough human characteristics for her to be considered "anthropomorphized" by e621's (vague) standards.

I'm not sure what you guys are interpreting "anthro" to mean here.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/anthropomorphize

Anthropomorphize
verb ... to ascribe human form or attributes to (an animal, plant, material object, etc.).

http://e621.net/wiki/show?nordirect=1&title=anthro

As this accurately describes most furry characters, "anthro" is commonly used to describe a bipedal furry character, ones whose nonhuman-to-human appearance ratio rates about 45% to 75%.

For e621's purposes, the term anthro is used to describe the visual morphology of a subject.

There is no clear delineation between anthro and feral. But Gilda is far from the former.

I wouldn't call Gilda feral or anthro. She doesn't look the least bit anthro and her eyes are way too big for a real gryphon's.

Well, a hypothetical real gryphon's.
If gryphons were real, they'd have proportionately small eyes, like any avian creature.

Would Gilda really look that out of place in a search for 'feral gryphon'?

Anime style doesn't mean it can't be feral either.

As a possible solution, how about tagging her on a case-by-case basis based on the distinguishing features?

i.e. post #198035 , post #171236 & post #205581 could be anthro (talons look more like arms),
While post #164019 and the last 2 could be seen as feral (all-fours,no human-like appendages/features other than the expression)

Another solution could involve tagging the more uncertain posts as both feral and anthro;
Although that might lead to more confusion since it would imply both an anthro character & a feral one being there.

Yeah, manual tagging for this would probably be best.
