Topic: Tag Alias: grey -> Invalid_tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

+100 (nicely done!)

One thing though, how do we find new posts that are tagged with grey?

Updated by anonymous

Not sure if I follow that,
If we alias grey to invalid_tag, there'd be no (new) *grey* to look for, right?

Updated by anonymous

Instead of aliasing it to invalid_tag, I think we should alias the main colors to invalid_color, so they can be replaced more easily.

Grey or Gray = invalid tag? o.0

What are those tags intended to describe?

Invalid - 404 (non-existing)
grey - see color
gray - see color

When someone puts a color tag on something, they are usually trying to describe the main color, but we have [color]_theme for that.

That does sound like a good idea, especially since colours are an important element of images

I know that... I was pointing out that most anything that 'gray/grey' would be used for would be covered by another tag, thus, invalid tag/color is rather suitable.

Let's make it official then.

I meant let's alias them to invalid_color (so that they won't get dumped into invalid_tag which is mostly for defunct tags)

Heh, I meant, when we start changing them to be more specific, like slyroon said

Alright. Unless there are any complaints:

Grey will be aliased to Invalid_color
Gray will be aliased to Invalid_color

Let's see..... AH! Here it is.

tag group:colors

Let's see.. it looks like the top needs to be edited to emphasize that the simple color doesn't need to be tagged... and we probably need to add (color)_fur to the list. Anything else?

<3 thank you SnowWolf, I'll update the related pages, fix the tags and add invalid_color to my watch list so we won't have this problem again

AWESOME guys! :D I'll do the aliasing in about 12 hours to give anyone a chance to object if they do. :)

in the mean time, i'm SO excited to be seeing people getting to work on these color tags! :D It's awesome to see motivated members! :D

as a note for anyone wanting to jump in and get involved, using your 'uploaded tags' are AWESOME!

Uploaded tags are displayed below an image when you go to edit the tags or upload an image. It's list of tags that you can click on, and it will be applied to the text box for you to save a few minutes later.

You make a list of tags in the box--I separate them by new lines, but spaces WILL work, though it'll display the same both ways later--.. chose tags that you are frequently adding, or frequently removing from an image. if an image contains a tag, you can click on the tag in your list to remove it, then again to re-add it.

So, for this case, you might want to add pink_fur pink_eyes pink_theme pink and so forth to your uploaded tags list so that you can tag way faster :)

Finally! I'm always bothered by 'color' tags, yet I tend to leave them alone if they're defining the dominant theme.

Very yellow-themed. Now I have a tag to describe that better than just 'yellow'.

I'LL TAKE ORANGE!!

Edit: After eating :3

Has anybody done the orange color? I couldn't finish it 'cuz my internets are slow (and still), loaded a few images and the thing just resets itself, I made it here disabling images (which is uncool). So I will be out for a while
btw, we should move this to a new thread

I did purple mlp and now I'm doing purple male to break it into chunks. Once the tags have been changed, please say so here so that it can be aliased

gray/grey aliased <3

as for a new thread.. .let's go ahead and keep it here in this thread... discussion and progress reports.

This is a long and detailed list! Do we need all of these things? I like clothes, eyes, hair, nipples, nose, spots, theme, background...

but I'm a little ocncerned about feathers/fur/skin/scales etc. in some cases its hard to tell if a character is covered in scales or skin, or fur or flesh. Maybe we'd be better off with a single word to describe body colors? what do you guys think?

this has been gone into a bit before: forum #19468 ... though with a slightly differnet scope -- that one was talking more about body markings and fur patterns and such.

Updated by anonymous

Well we could just go with *_body so that it won't have to matter if it's scales, fur, etc. and since the species is tagged I don't see why it would need to be that specific. But what does everyone else think?

This is what I do: If the character is a dragon I'll tag *_scales, if it's a fox, dog or other animal with fur I'll tag *_fur

Updated by anonymous

dark_skin green_skin
grey_skin
blue_skin

I ran into the problem with images that don't look like fur because they are rubbery or latexy or shiny looking. I say just use *_skin unless you can find a clue that indicates feathers or fur. And I used skin for scales since I think scales are a kind of skin?

For mlp pics I just used *_fur even if they look like shiny latex blobs, since we know they are equines.

Adrian_Blazevic said:

This is pretty much what I do, I tag skin unless it has some texture to indicate otherwise. For pony vectors (solid fill, no texture) I use fur unless they are really shiny in which case I use skin and for birds I use feathers.

Updated by anonymous

but the thing is, there are plenty of wolves and cats that look like shiney latex blobs. and then it's more of a question of why is this wolf tagged _skin and this one tagged_fur... and.. it's kinda subjective. is that griffon furry? feathery? both? shiney latex?

it'd be easier to come up with a universal like blue_body or some such.

Updated by anonymous

It seems *_body is used. So I say tag whatever can be "correct", skin or fur if possible, body if ambiguous. Then when the job's done, if ever, these tags can be aliased to *_body if necessary, or maybe just an implication.

I feel like there should be a curated page of commonly-used tags on the wiki (yeah it's possible to just sort tags by count). Then link that from several help areas. It's a lot of work to fix all these tags and create these distinctions, but it's pointless if most users don't know about them.

Edit: I guess this will do: http://e621.net/wiki/show?title=tag_group%3Aindex

I think I made a request for a dictionary like list of the most common tags with links to their respective forum discussions and regular wiki definitions.

Also, I like the idea of having a universal term like _body but the only con I can think of is people might not like the idea of not breaking it down into fur, scales, etc. Still, I think the advantages of having a universal term outweigh this, as it would be easier to search for a body color then adding a species would be like having _scales, _fur, _etc.

A few more 'grey' tags have snuck in. Can we get those aliased to invalid_color so we don't backslide on one of the few color tags that's so nearly cleared?

EDIT: Durrr, I'm stupid. They already are invalid colors. I'll just clean them out.
