SEA!
Sea = ocean, the differences are mostly trivial. Technically if one wants to get super-anal about it, it should be the other way around.
Sea[/i]: "The expanse of salt water that covers most of the earth's surface and surrounds its landmasses."Ocean[/i]: "A very large expanse of sea, in particular, each of the main areas into which the sea is divided geographically: "the Atlantic Ocean"."Though knowing e6, cue three page debate.

Wouldn't it be easier just to alias it all to water?

Try 'implicate'. An ocean/sea contains water, but a large amount of water is also considered a sea/ocean.

Now sea here...
I thought/believe that seas are in oceans, not the other way around. Although we do divide the ocean into seven different oceans, seas are usually smaller body of waters within oceans, such as the Arabian Sea in the Indian Ocean or the Coral Sea in the Pacific Ocean.

Well, Blaziken has a point about them being objectively different (though commonly used to refer to the same thing), but Furry Fanatic's alias looks like it's in the right order. At least, according to wikipedia anyway
The word "sea" is often used interchangeably with "ocean", but a sea is a body of saline water (possibly a division of the World Ocean) in a more inland location
There's also this site, which says
Oceans are enormous when compared to any sea

Though I'm all for an alias, can anyone think of a situation where a post could include ocean, but not sea (and vice versa)?
A possible method for using them separately could be adding ocean to pictures that show a macroscopic view of a body of water, such as the world map, countries, or where there's no land visible (post #186714,post #117805, post #90200)
And sea for the other way around i.e. when land is visible, but not as much as a lake (post #51524, post #43110, post #74602
But that's extremely trivial in comparison to what it usually gets used for (everything with water, short of lake/puddle)
Depending on which is agreed upon, I don't mind cleaning the tags up to reflect that (posts tagged as ocean have no land visible in them/ depict a macroscopic view, while posts with sea have less)

Maybe for the sake of the sea monster to not feel left out, we alias it to sea

On a related note, there's all the water-based implications as well:
puddle -> water
pond -> water
stream -> water
swimming pool -> water
river -> water
beach -> water
lake -> water
And depending on what's agreed for ocean/sea,
sea -> water
ocean -> water
Other possible implications
beach -> sea/ocean
(I'll put this in a separate thread depending on how enthusiastic you all are about discussing it)

Any other thoughts? If not something should be done.

A sea is usually a particular body of water within the Ocean. However, sea can also refer to a saline lake (also a particular body of water) like the Caspian Sea or Dead Sea. When we use the term sea, it is almost always going to be in a name, so we either want ocean or lake. I'd mark sea as ambiguous, and as such, depreciate it in favor of more specific terms.
If you really want to do something now, let's fix the tags on sea -ocean -lake

Not this one, a beach can be on any body of water like a lake or river.
