Tag Implication: Nightmare_Moon_(mlp) -> Princess_Luna_(mlp)

These are the same character... sort of. All pictures of Nightmare Moon are pictures of Princess Luna, but not all pictures of Princess Luna are pictures of Nightmare Moon.

A lot of solo pictures of Nightmare Moon are currently given both tags, so if this implication isn't accepted, that probably needs some cleanup.

It's the same thing as Pinkamena is to Pinkie Pie. They are two separate characters. If we can agree that all instances of Nightmare Moon instigate the use of Princess Luna in addition then we should make an implication.

However, I'm not sure that this entirely complies with tag what you see

technically having a character name at all is contradicting the tag what you see rule. just sayin.

Ironic isn't it?

If you can recognize a character without any outside information then you tag it, but how do you know the character without outside information? Yes, we know that nightmare moon is princess luna, but if I didn't and I saw a picture of just nightmare moon, having princess luna and nightmare moon on the tag list would confuse me.

In this context I saw we separate them. They are, in regard to tagging, different characters with different appearances.

I figure this is kind of the same as, for example, Yugi and Atem from Yu-gi-oh. They're technically the same character, but at the same time they're clearly very different in personality and motivation. Based solely on their physical appearance, it's not very easy for people who don't know the characters to realize that NMM and Luna are one and the same.

I think it really is the same thing as Pinkamena to Pinkie Pie. If Pinkamena_(mlp) implicates to Pinkie_Pie_(mlp), then so should Nightmare_Moon_(mlp) implicate to Princess_Luna_(mlp).

If Pinkamena and Pinkie Pie showing up in the tags list together doesn't confuse outsiders, then Nightmare Moon and Princess Luna showing up in the tags list together won't either.

Tangentially, Pinkamena_(mlp) and Nightmare_Moon_(mlp) both need better wiki pages. The wiki can help people when they do get confused about tags. It's something of an underutilized tool.

Precisely, they have such different appearances that I'd consider them two completely different characters given they are out of context.

Pinkamena and Pinkie Pie however, I find so similar in appearance that they are tagged with both. The straightened hair is the only noticeable difference.

I'll update the wiki on both to clarify.

how about throwing in an the alias "luna_(mlp)" ?
Not having to add "princess_" every time seems fair enough...

same´d go for the others, too, of course...

Yeah, lot's of the mlp characters need more aliases, such as the minor characters sometimes having an alias and sometimes nothing.
Alright, the aliases/implications for the two aforementioned characters are how they need to be, thank you SnowWolf.

pinkamena_(mlp) has be implicated with pinkie_pie_(mlp) reason: can't have pinkamena without pinkie_pie

I agree as they are so very similar.

nightmare_moon has been aliased to nightmare_moon_(mlp)

No need for an implication.

Last, I think making a few aliases of minor but popular characters (such as Vinyl Scratch) would be a good idea.

Sure thing. I usually try not to change to much, just the syntax and adding content
