Topic: Right tags wrong content.

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Figured since I see these mistakes almost constantly I would post this thread with the hope's it gets stickied.

Certain tags get used mistakenly a lot when they don't belong to the image due to how the admin set up e621. Every dickgirl image..or at least most of them get tagged as herm same goes for solo males with the gay tag.

Herm- a female with a penin and vagina visable.

Dickgirl- a female with a penis but no vagina visable.

Gay- this tag is used to denote sexual activity between two males. Not solo males. If the solo male has cum on or dripping out of his ass then its gay. Same if hes sucking cock or getting railed.

Lastly. For the record Tag what you see, not what you know. Ive seen this rule broken quiet a lot and the person usaly says "well its on his FA!" Doesn't matter. http://e621.net/wiki/show?title=tag_what_you_see

I went in and cleared up a few erroneous solo male gay tags, but it didn't look like the problem was too bad. Although I don't make a practice of adding the gay tag to such images, I'm unwilling to remove the 'gay' tag from images of solo males with cum or cum-like fluids leaking out of their anus.

Herms aren't female, by the way. I have a preference for considering them their own gender. Even ignoring that, there are definitely 'maleherms' too. I don't think they have a separate tag from 'herm'. (Do they?)

So if I were to show a picture of a guy naked, with no visible genetalia but it was proven a male, would it still be ambiguously gendered even if the artist says its a guy and everyone else knows it's a guy? That confuses me about the Tag What You See experience.

I fail completely to see what's difficult to see about that. Tag without outside input 100% of the time and you cannot go wrong. Ignore people screaming that this creature that for all intents and purposes looks like a Purple Weasel is a Sniggerlebegiborbit; you do not tag it Sniggerlebegiborbit here, you tag it Purple Weasel. That's the rules, that's how it always has been. This is not for some nazi sig heil cult of rules, but so people can find shit without knowing about the fandom surrounding it.

Consider the Average Joe Blow. He come in off the street with it locked into his head that he is going to battle his purple-helmeted warrior to pictures of foxes with blue hair. Does Joe Blow know about the nine bajillionthousandmamillion blue-haired fox characters? No. So don't tag them with those character names. Leave it be and tag only what you see in the picture. Nothing more and nothing less.

1 DO YOU SEE WANG? IF YES, THEN GOTO 2 IF NO THEN GOTO 3
2 ARE THERE BREASTS INVOLVED AS WELL? IF YES THEN TAG HERMAPHRODITE IF NO THEN TAG MALE
3 DO YOU SEE NIPPLES/VAGINER/CLITTERUS? IF YES THEN TAG FEMALE IF NO THEN TAG AMBIGUOUSLY GENDERED
4 END

As a programmer, I couldn't help myself

1 DO YOU SEE WANG? IF YES, THEN GOTO 2 IF NO THEN GOTO 4
2 ARE THERE BREASTS INVOLVED AS WELL? IF YES THEN TAG HERMAPHRODITE IF NO THEN TAG MALE
3 GOTO 5
4 DO YOU SEE NIPPLES/VAGINER/CLITTERUS? IF YES THEN TAG FEMALE IF NO THEN TAG AMBIGUOUSLY GENDERED
5 END

:P

I fixed it more betterer.

1 DO YOU SEE WANG? IF YES, THEN GOTO 2 IF NO THEN GOTO 4
2 IS THERE A PUSSY AS WELL? IF YES THEN TAG HERMAPHRODITE ELSE GOTO 5
3 GOTO 11
4 DO YOU SEE VAGINER/CLITTERUS? IF YES THEN GOTO 7 IF NO THEN TAG AMBIGUOUSLY GENDERED
5 GOTO 11
6 DO YOU SEE BREASTS? IF YES TAG DICKGIRL ELSE TAG MALE
7 GOTO 11
8 DO YOU SEE BREASTS? IF YES TAG FEMALE ELSE GOTO 10
9 GOTO 11
10 IS IT CUB/SCALIE/OTHER CIRCUMSTANCE WHERE YOU WOULDN'T NECESSARILY EXPECT TO SEE BREASTS ON A FEMALE? IF YES TAG FEMALE IF NO TAG CUNTBOY
11 END

I shouldn't even attempt to joke in a programming sense when I'm tired. ._.

By following all the tips ikdind and Snowy made, the Pokemon shown in your avatar would be... Ambiguously gendered. Why is it tagged male? I see no wang or anything that suggests either one is male.
*ha* I'm gonna change that...

I really can't tell if you're being snide or not, but I'll assume you're not. Yeah, I haven't actually looked at the tags for it, and I should have, but that's accurate. I think the male tag was being used for the Typhlosion, but the Blaziken is very clearly female.

Unfortunately it's not that simple... e621 has your choice of eight mutually exclusive sex+gender tags: male, female, intersex (with sub-tags herm, maleherm, dickgirl, and cuntboy, also mutually exclusive), neuter, and of course ambiguous gender. The correct tag depends on (1) Body structure (feminine, masculine?) (2) Sex organs if visible or clearly apparent (3) Secondary sex characteristics including breasts

Not to mention additional and species-specific tags like gelding, eunuch, castrated, girly, flat chest and such.

A better way of stating the "tag what you see" rule would be: Tag whatever would correctly or necessarily describe what you're seeing and is present as part of the image.

This doesn't mean that we don't include outside knowledge in tagging. We know that an otter is a mustelid so we tag both (actually even better, the system does that for you). That is necessarily true by the tag's definition. However, we also know that artica sparkle is a herm. But this is not necessarily true -- there could be a female or male version someone does, but otherwise the same character.

We good now?
