Eh... Your response doesn't exactly make sense. Why not just <i>blacklist</i> it instead?

The rating of an image is generally supposed to be by those who like the subject matter of the image. It's not supposed to be a measurement of how many people like the subject matter, but a measurement of how much people who like that subject matter like that individual image. I mean, do you go around downvoting gay stuff?

only if i click it by accident. because i don't like it, and that is what the rating system is for, to show if poeple like it or not. and why do i not blacklist it? because if i do, tags will start conflicting if i blacklist everything i don't like, so i leave it be and don't click on it if it looks like i don't like it from the thumbnail

And the point is that you're downvoting not because you dislike the image in particular, but the subject matter. Which doesn't make sense for the rating system being useful. Essentially, you're sabotaging the rating system for people who like things you don't like.

No. They upvote the straight art that <i>they like in particular</i>, and downvote the straight art that <i>they dislike in particular</i>. You, by contrast, downvote whatever it is that you <i>wouldn't / couldn't have liked anyways</i>, which is rather pointless since then the determining factor is whether you ran across it or not.

The point is that the searchability of the picture <i>is</i> affected, since some people use rating as a search tool to find things they think they might like -- you know, based on what other people who like similar things to them like?

And also, you obviously feel the rating system has a purpose considering that you use it, so... Wouldn't it piss you off if every gay furry on the site downvoted every piece of straight art they came across? Just on principle, even though you don't use the ratings in any way?

in that case, teh rating system is faulty, because alot of people don't like pedophilia, scat, vore, etc, so how are they going to use the voting system for that? there has to be a change in the searchability function for that to work. or they can just type in vore in teh search bar and just breeze through submission

Well, generally the idea is that people vote on things that are relevant to their interests, and don't bother voting on things they wouldn't care about/for. That way it works out (roughly) that the better (X type) art posts will be higher rated than the lesser (X type) art posts overall, relations between ratings on (X type) and (Y type) being basically irrelevant. You know, so it can be used as a "What do other people with similar tastes recommend?" sort of thing.

true, but still, what is posted is fair game, since the rating search feature shows everything, not just what you specifically are interested in.
