They are still working on it. Be patient.

You have to be a privileged user in order to vote now.

Hmm. more and more like Danbooru. I like it. But i'll miss seeing pictures with 150+ upvotes. Does anyone know what the highest voted picture was before the score reset?
Updated by anonymous
I actually really like this. You have to be serious about the site to vote instead of getting tons of kids downvoting good art and upvoting bad art for the fun of it, or downvoting something only because they have some beef with the artist, or whatever.

I believe it was this one (flash game with a masturbating herm in a shower): post #21960
Something else may have taken the top spot since then but this one was one of the highest at least.

So is comment voting restricted to Priv and up, or is this really a full Danbooru overhall? We already have a shitstorm at Danbooru because of retards abusing the hell out of the comment voting. If we're going to keep comment voting, we should restrict it so that 89% of the user base doesn't get butthurt and spew flames just because their comment was voted down.

This seems kinda backwards to me. Voting, like a lot of user-contributed things, only works if there's enough people doing it for the cream to bubble to the top (ahem, so to speak...). On pictures, it seems silly to restrict it, especially since mischief is fairly benign and easily undone; it'd be like restricting tagging. But I doubt that comments get enough voting attention for voting to work...
If people are afraid of abuse early on (when it can have a lot of effect), maybe restrict voting for the first 24 or 72 hours or something.

To be honest, I don't see the point in voting for pictures either way. If the mods allow it to get through then it's good enough for the site, and if the user doesn't like it then they can blacklist it.
Voting on comments seems silly though, since e621 hasn't really put much focus on individual conversations. Hopefully the new set up won't hide poorly rated comments, or at least has the option to disable it from doing so.

It's a nice way to sort a search by *some* metric of quality (i.e. by throwing "order:score" into the search), and the "Popular by x" pages require it ("Popular by day" makes for a nice daily summary).

We don't need to block lowest rated material. That's what a blacklist is for.

And can someone tell me if this setup was based mainly off of danbooru?

I must say that I really do agree with this. I appreciated being able to search by highest rated, but now, everything either has a 0 or a 1... without representation for most of the e621 users, what use is a voting system in the first place? Just my opinion.

I don't usually post in the forum, but just wondering. I looked up the help file to see that only privileged accounts can vote but it gave the admins address to request it. Is it invite only, or can I ask for it by sending them an email and them reviewing I'm not a terrible person? :P
Just wondering anyways. Hopefully the system improves, only 1's and 0's out there now, but hey, it's new

I agree with what a lot of people are saying, over the past WHILE (how long I don't remember) I have used score to find images, because some times, you don't even know exactly what your looking for, and its great to find a pleasantly surprising image. Now with voting so limited, it doesn't seem very possible.... in fact it seems like just a way to get money =/.

I found post voting useful because sometimes a thumbnail can be tricky, if the votes are low i know to avoid it, if they're really high then it's a decent pic

Fair enough, but that seems like a "pushy" way to do it.

While were on the topic, whats with the voting on comments thing? I'd click the vote button and a scroll bar pops up on the side of the screen but nothing else happens.

I can appreciate that, but at least currently, basing anything on its votes is largely pointless =/

You can always EARN a privileged status.

you can earn it? Hmm, how exactly?
Anyway, I dunno, what is the use of having a vote without some kind of established representation of the group? If it isn't able to be expressed freely, then why not get rid of it completely?

Any chance of this being revisited now that the epic existential drama epic is over? I think a good compromise would be to allow everyone to vote after a day or a few days.
Updated by anonymous
I agree with what seems to be the general sentiment here. While I can understand the idea behind limiting voting to privileged accounts as a method of filtering out users who don't have some vested interest in the site's success, the current system makes the entire voting system useless, since the numbers aren't diverse enough to make ordering by score worthwhile.
Perhaps some sort of system that requires accounts to have a certain age before being allowed to score images? After, say, 3 months using the site, I'd expect only accounts made by users with actual interest in the site to still be active; the trolls would have forgotten about it by then.

I'd concur with morhe. Searching by vote count wasn't always reliable by any means, but it was a good general indicator. Helped in weeding out the crap. Very useful. Kind of miss it. Any suggestions on finding the good stuff without having to wade through pages of shitting dicknipples?

Other than just using my previous favorites, I mean. I'm looking for newer posts that aren't crap, but might not be on the popular list.

I keep seeing people complaining that voting is oh-so-bad because images were being votebombed into oblivion. If that's the reason image voting was removed then talk about nuking a house to kill a spider.
There are LOTS of better ways to deal with votebombing. Some are so obvious they just roll off without even thinking about it. Only let mature accounts (older than a week, say) vote. Only allow an account a certain number of downvotes during a time period. Temporarily restrict voting options of accounts whose upvote to downvote ratio has reached a certain point. Et cetera.
That said, how many images have even ever been downvoted in such a way that it's clear there's more going on than just people voting on a stupid image?

Well, at one point most things done by Pinkuh were put at least as low as -30, and she's not exactly what I'd call a terrible artist. :/
Plus there was the bit of anything with LupineAssassin having similar ratings of around -100, irrelevant of content or quality.
Just those two totaled over a hundred images put together. Hell, LA probably accounted for more than that alone. It was bad enough that Arcturus blanked the votes on everything LA at one point.
Updated by anonymous
I think I've just had a flash of inspiration.
What if you allow only privileged accounts to vote up or down, but count how many people have the picture in their "favorites" list and add that number to the score? That way, non-privileged accounts can indirectly vote in favor of a pic, allowing the cream to rise to the crop more effectively while preventing mass down-voting.

Not trying to backseat admin or anything, but I really feel that getting some sort of voting system on images should be a priority right now. It's making it way more difficult than it ought to be to find the awesome images.

Now that varka is running the place, can we please bring voting on pictures back?
Updated by anonymous
I think that voting should be done like on http://metabooru.com/, the score is an average of all the scores (like = 100, hate = 0), that way a post that is older won't automatically get an advantage.
Also, you need to be logged in to vote, no vote-cookieclear-vote-cookieclear, etc etc etc.
Updated by anonymous
Any updates? The built-in stuff still uses order:score and not order:favcount, so it still needs fixing... :( Plenty of nice ideas in this thread.

We're still getting the bugs on the site fixed first before we can really start implementing or modifying any functionality. Let's go ahead and discuss this some more though.
HERE'S THE NEW PROPOSED RULES. Let me know what you think.
All users with a user account at least 1 month old will have voting privileges, and users will be allowed 1 vote per picture ever, which can not be changed.
Good enough?

Now what about comment voting? Voted down comments look exactly the same as regualr ones if you choose to view them. They should be a different color, like on danbooru. That'd make them a lot easier to distinguish. But even with that said, I still think that we don't need the comment voting feature, as it only begets posteriorpain, and we all know how butthurt furries are *cough*insanefaggaroo*cough*.
Updated by anonymous
Actually, comment voting is a good idea. Sometimes a stupid comment can ruin the picture.
A better and easier way though, would be to hide ALL comments by default and make them appear only after clicking.

Actually, you can do that by setting your threshhold above zero in the user settings. Just put it at 100 or something.

I approve of that Char. Multiple voting on a picture was ridiculous, and was really what broke the voting system in the first place.

I agree wholeheartedly. β)

I like the 1-month voting idea...
but... I'd like to be able to change my vote. I don't want to vote something up over and over, but if I come back a few weeks or months later and decide I don't actually like an image (perhaps noticing something horrible wrong with it, or through a better understanding of the artist's art, or "the joke" or something (case in point -- L4D art often features a huge, bloated, vomiting, boil covered zombie that would appeal to NONE of my fetishes and would at base make me go "eeeew"... however, after playing the game, I'd point and go "aha! It's a boomer!" and then possibly vote up.))
But, all in all, that's a minor statement to be made, and it won't make or break the site for me, even remotely :)
Also, I'd love to see the actual score on comments. I know I can adjust my threshold, but I just want to be able to see if someone has already been downvoted into oblivion, or if they need my help ;)

How about having a vote up only system? That way, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Or go with the suggested vote averaging per total votes system on a 1 to 10 scale. so older pics don't rule it all. I did rather like the ability to image vote, I just found the voting down part kinda silly, it allows spiteful and foolish types to cause drama.

Or remove voting entirely? I've had shitloads of the art I uploaded mass downvoted apparently for the lulz.

The lack of quality control means I've been going elsewhere for my fill of furry pronz. I've still been checking back every so often to see if the scoring system has been re-implemented yet.

Again, the voting system will be fixed, but we've just got bigger problems at the moment.
Locking this topic now. I'll unlock if I feel that any further discussion on voting other than what's already occurred needs to take place.
