Hey all,

As you may have noticed, some new ads for Bad Dragon have gone up on the site in two spots - the small icon in the corner of the page, and a wide 'leaderboard' at the top of each post page.

These are being added to generate some revenue for the site in order to pay for the server it's being hosted on. As I am cofounder of a hosting company (http://www.ioflood.com - if you need some hosting, let me know you're from e621 and I'll throw you a discount), I've managed to get a pretty sweet deal on renting a dedicated machine for the site.

e621 is run directly from my pocket, which is why it's important that sources of revenue are found which can help keep the site operational. Due to my connections with Bad Dragon, I've managed to secure a favorable advertising rate from them which I hope will mean that no further donations or ads will be necessary. However, if e621 does end up making more money than it needs for server rental, I hope to use the extra money to hire a professional Ruby on Rails programmer to go and squash bugs :D

Anyway; please let me know if you have any feedback regarding the ads - if there are changes I can make to make them less eye-raping (though jesus christ, black label ads from before were REALLY bad), then please let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate :D

Your ad (based on current number of ads) will be shown roughly 1 out of every 8 pageviews (ie, double the weight of currently running ads). Hm one thing though, when you click on an ad, don't they normally open up in a new tab or window, rather than directly in that page?

Also, what was wrong about the Black Label Ads? I thought they were fine.

Black label ads were pretty intrusive and eyewatering, especially the webcam ones.

Are advertisements normally supposed to turn you on?

the adds are alot better now nothing truely disturbing how ever a new issue has risen there was a virus caught on e6 that actuly destroyed a pc recently devowering the hard drive if there is a way please look into it

The virus was in one of the OLD ads. Which aren't here anymore.

The new leaderboard ad makes me sad :<
I can no longer press F11 for fullscreen (1680x1050) porn browsing after I load images because the bottom half of most pictures is now cut-off. Any possible way to maybe move the ad to the right side if the user selects this option (opt-in) in his account settings? ._.

I can use F11 and see everything just fine, but I'm on a 1366x736 resolution or some crap like that, blasted laptop screens...

I see everything just fine too, but it makes one-hand browsing much easier if I just need to press Ctrl+Tab to scroll through images without using the mouse or arrow keys to see the bottom half.

As long as there's none of those 'viral ads, Or the ones like AdultFriendFinder that like to install tracking cookies or steal redirects like on R34 then I'm all for it.

I have no problems with ads, WebDevs need to eat too, And the price of KD has gone up.

You can add a million ads to this site and I wouldn't care.

The only ads I find extremely annoying are the popup ads, the flash-heavy ads, and the sound ads.

This site is easily tolerable.

Heck.. add 2 or 3 more... 4 or 5.. whatever keeps this site running.

No. The second e621 offers paid accounts, then they are officially becoming a paysite. You're taking art from artists' galleries to make a paysite, and that jumps into really deep shit lawsuit land. (You have to consider the number of artists who do not want their work on here in the first place.)

I allow my stuff here on the idea that this site is free. The second they offer paid items, I am pulling my work. Period.

But e621 IS free, us becoming a paysite would mean blocking access to all who wouldn't pay for it (which is everyone). Access to the artwork will always be free. Also, getting people to pay $20 for a priviliged account works for Danbooru.
