Actually... since we're pushing not putting opinion in tags, I guess it would be fine to remove all the other tags like this? Like hawt, beautiful, perfection?

Doooo eeeet.

don't forget stupid, retarded, autistic, lame, etc.

on a side note: wouldn't the tag cute also be implying an opinion? as well as awesome, epic, amazing, etc?

I thought about this at first, but cute is also used for tagging images of young characters that isn't necessarily shota/loli in that it's non-sexual. But then, I guess "cub" should be used in those cases. So...maybe? Though I've not seen it really used on images of cute guys/girls that aren't younger. I dunno.

Getting rid of personal opinion tags would also mean getting rid of tags like nightmare_fuel, which would make me sad. I think maybe we should have some kind of moderation with tags that are personal opinion, but necessarily axe them all.

I'd be sad to lose that one, "what_has_science_wrought," "what" and the like. So I vote yes to moderation

Cub should be on every 'young' picture. Also, loli/shota should be as well. if people want safe images, they can use -rating:e

as for 'cute' I like cute because.... well.. I was going to make an argument, then I actually looked at the cute tag and realized that my argument is invalid. i THOUGHT we were only using cute to describe pictures of particularly intensive adorableness--puppies and kittens, super chibi characters, big shiney blue eyes and so forth, but no. we're not. the most recent page of 'cute' images has some 'aww' pictures, some random "character standing here' several sultry pin up pictures, a male rabbit thrusting his man meat backwards through his thighs so you can see it, blatent cheesecake and... yeah. nevermind.

cute should be nuked from orbit as well.

I like epic/awesome/amazing as ONE TAG (epic) as long as it's actually used for epic-ness (this? post #136620 --not epic. post #131265 or post #119578 or post #96340 Pretty dang epic.

what has science done and nightmare fuel are pretty cool and should be kept. but...

well, if nothing else hawt, beautiful, and so forth need to go. IMHO.

"nightmare_fuel" and the likes always carried a humoristic meaning rather than a judgement on a picture.
We wouldn't want post #8169 to lose this tag.

Blame english language and the double meaning of the word.

I'd point out that "adorable" is aliased to "cute", while it's less ambiguous in my mind.

Welp. You're right, I managed to misremember a rule plus the fact that a lot of cub images are tagged cute. My bad. I do agree that it should be used for something like post #136097 rather than something like post #136838

That picture is... *shudder*... aptly tagged.

I think cute should actually be aliased to adorable. Scratch that, adorable should be unaliased and then should imply cute. Cute as a word applies equally to attractive chicks/dudes as to things that evoke the well-documented D'aww-Snuggle Response. Adorable, on the other hand, really only applies to DSR images.

In my opinion, adorable should be aliased to cute (they mean pretty much the same thing, but cute is a more popular term), and used only for posts like post #130411 post #121113 post #99476 post #91953

All other posts with it on it (which is probably everything explicit) should have it removed. In my opinion it's better to have a subjective tag that signifies a specific idea (in this case cuteness, which we don't really have any other tags for) than to have no tag for it at all.

Yeah, looking through the first page of cute rating:e there isn't really anything there I would describe as cute.

So, if we are gonna keep personal opinion tags, we need to figure out which ones we should use. There are a lot of opinion tags floating around and we need to pick which one to use.
There is amazing, epic, win, epic_win, awesome, cool and probably a ton of others, so we need to find them and alias them to whatever we need to.

I vote we alias all of those to "superlative."

Fuck no.

personally, I like Epic and maybe awesome. Awesome for stuff that is just COOL... (like... say, images of very realistic lions styled to look like the cast of the lion king) and Epic for things that make you go "oh my GOD! how cool!" (the same, only depicting the final tense moments of the movie in a dynamic method... or, a well illustrated image of some anthro wolves posing as nordic gods, in an easily identifyingable, true to legend sort of way. or similar)...

generally, something that makes you go "wow" honestly.

Personally, I'd like to see the end of all opinion tags, even staples like cute. They are completely subjective.

Of course, but just like 'attractive' there are certain "standards' that are generally accepted as 'usual'. a woman with a certain face, a certain type of body, hair, etc are considered beautiful, or attractive. you may not agree, but that is what most people think.

'cute' should cover the general idea of 'adorableness'... You may find 'cute' sickeningly nauseating, disturbing or even grotesque, but there's a pretty common definition of cute.

and I HAVE used the site to look for 'cute' pictures before, and think it helps our usabillity... as there is otherwise no way to find, say post #83279 from post #66525 :P

It looks like we have a number of tags that are various levels of "what." There's what, huh, why, nightmare_fuel, what_has_science_done, and where_is_your_god_now. There may be more I haven't found yet. I think some of those can probably just be aliased to "what."

Ok. After looking at some of the images with those last two tags...totally valid IMO, just perhaps misused sometimes. I fully believe post #119622 deserves where is your god now, but not what has science done.

I guess if others disagree, then it's probably too subjective and they should both be removed and we'll just stick to "what" and "nightmare_fuel." Chances are if you're questioning your religion, it's fuel for nightmares XD

I suppose on points of contention we could create threads and hold votes in the forums to see which subjective tags apply to which images.

It would help if the wiki explicitly described how to use a particular subjective tag; someone should even write a little tutorial about subjective tags in the wiki (like the blacklist entry).

It looks like the quote function is busted for me. Anyway. This is in response to Klo.

That's not a bad idea. I'll be internetless for the next week, but if it hasn't happened by then, I'll happily write up a page like that.

can we also make the tag "crap_art" an invalid tag? also tags like "op_lrn2tag_better" and the like? (last tag listed isn't a real tag I don't think, but there's a real tag or two like it.)
