Topic: Tag Clearup: Comic

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

So, this has been wiggling around in my head for awhile now. I think comic needs to imply comic_(format) and have comic only be used for actual comics. That way one-off comic format pictures are still tagged appropriately, but comics are also tagged properly and the comics tag pool can be gone through to check if they're properly pooled or not, and, if not, pool them.

I think.. there's a decent idea here, but it needs to be adjusted slightly... Hmm..

maybe...

comic (as in, 10 page story) implies comic_(format)
one_page_comic (as it says on the tin) implies comic_(format)

And, possibly, one_page_comic implies comic.

ooooor...

one page comics are tagged one_page_comic, which implies comic, and leave comic_(format) out entierly..... one can search comic -one_page_comic is they want only several page stories or to check for pooling issues. and gives someone something to search for if they want quick little one off stories or gag strips.

the biggest problem is that the comic tag has 8500 pages (exactly! :D ). aaaand they would need to be gone through by hand, because you cna't tell by the thumbnail if these are part of the same story, or just similar scan quality..

also, there is also the question of... if you have a series of one-page_comics about the same characters by the same artists that don't actually have a page-to-page continuity (bedfellows comes to mind), do they get pooled?

page-to-page continuity isn't required if that's the premise of the series of comic pages- Much like how Full Frontal Nerdity goes off on a new subject every strip with only a few actually referencing older ones.

If we're going to do format we might as well go full scale..

comic_panel_(format) for comics that only has one panel.
comic_strip_(format) for comics that has multiple panels in a single strip.
comic_page_(format) for comics with continuity, implies this is only a page of a full comic. Meaning that comics with no page-to-page continuity will not apply, even if there're multiple comics of the same subject.
meme_(format) for obvious meme-formats. (image + meme-text, or portrait with a meme-face)
full_body_portrait_(format) for full body portraits.
face_portrait_(format) for face portraits.
advice_dog_(format) for advice dogs.
movie_poster_(format) for movie posters
advertisement_(format) for sales advertisement. (like the coppertone advert)
character_select_(format) for character select screens.
character_battle_(format) for fighting battle stage screens.

(image macro wouldn't fall here because it is somewhat subjective, most would be found under portrait_(format) and/or meme_(format) regardless)

Basically, format describes how the subjects are presented + exterior designs directly related to the presentation. Formats are not mutually exclusive.

hense why my suggestion was to leave comic_(format) out of it...

that said, there are some good ideas tere, lyokira, but.... there are other projects that need doing first. like backgrounds...

I think this is a pretty good system. No need for awkward tags that nobody will ever search for.
